    Other Kit wine labels?

That's a smart idea, why didn't I think of that? (especially since in the photo I attached it shows I have the hand-written tag I used originally on the carboy hanging off one of the bottles) Are those rubber bands holding them on? Or something else?

    Other Kit wine labels?

I assume you're talking about labels you make yourself on regular paper? How easily do the Avery labels come off?

    Other Kit wine labels?

I'm conflicted about how to "label" my bottles made from kit wines. Removing all those commercial labels first time around was such a PITA, I'd rather reduce my work. But labeled bottles are so pretty. I'm curious what others do? Do the kit wine labels tend to come off easier than commercial...

    Simple newbie pruning question

I'm actually looking to do dual-trunk, each with its own single cordon. Basically this: It's the popular method in my area, presumably for better backup should something happen to one trunk. Given that, how does that change your advice?

    Simple newbie pruning question

Thanks for trying to distill and answer. I'm struggling with the conflicting advice, particularly what balatonwine also said. One thing I feel ok about is this: "anything that didn't reach the first/lower wire, cut it down to 2 buds above the ground". Basically what I did last year for...

    Simple newbie pruning question

Sorry to be dense, but I'm confused by what you said a bit. You say "cut back to two buds anything that did not reach the lower wire." Conversely, that means to leave anything that did make the lower wire, to continue from there to work its way up to the top wire. Wouldn't that then also result...

    Simple newbie pruning question

Thanks, that's a cool idea and service. Unfortunately $390/year is a bit outside of my budget for this. It's just a hobby with fewer than 50 vines.

    Simple newbie pruning question

I have mostly Marquette with some Petite Pearl. I'm doing dual-trunks (well, trying to). Some did really well last year spreading out on the top wire a little bit, while others hardly got a couple feet up. Maybe variations in the ground in spots, maybe just variations with individual vines being...

    Simple newbie pruning question

Approaching year 3 of my vines. How time flies! The weather seems to warrant doing pruning this weekend. One question that's been nagging me that I haven't seen clarified in any books or websites I've read.... I know the general guideline is to "prune anything thinner than a pencil", but does...

Mosti Mondiale Mosti Mondiale - Fresh Juice - Your Recommendations

What are the locations? I am not far from Montreal and normally would go quite frequently pre-COVID, and have been thinking of picking some juice once I can cross the border again.

    RJ's Spagnols imitate Global

So depressing. I just don't get the marketing logic: Pre-2020: "Our premium kits are higher-quality because we don't concentrate the juice as much!" 2020: "We're concentrating the juice more in our premium kits but it doesn't change the quality!" Both can't be true.

    New growth tips suddenly dying?

Recently I noticed that the ends of a number of my vines that had looked very healthy and were growing vigorously have suddenly browned and shriveled. And it's only the tips. Ideas?

    New Winexpert Kits

All this avoids the point I made earlier that these same companies have been selling different tiers for years: "Economy" tier that is very concentrated (you need to add more water) "Premium" tier that is not as concentrated, and costs more. We all know they produce the same amount of end...

    New Winexpert Kits

For years we've been told that the reason these "premium" kits were so much better was because they screwed around with the original juice less, not removing as much water. That's why they were bigger, that's why there was more juice in the box, that's why we had to add less water, that's why we...

    Cab Franc vines dead

I had 4 of the vines I planted last year showing no life so I was certain they were dead. They were lagging way behind, but all have sprung to life at this point. Vines are strange.

    Training new trunks... prune extras?

So this year I started over trying to establish my trunks (planted last year). Some of my vines are only putting up 1 new cane :( while others are starting 4 or more. I'm trying to train 2 trunks per vine. For the ones with more than 2, should I pick the two best ones then prune off all the...
