New Pinot Noir Vines Not Anything

I use mulch but then again I don’t have 30 vines but I guess its all the same no weeds here.

New Pinot Noir Vines Not Anything

Watering is always the confusing part since we are all over the U.S. and even some from elsewhere so watering advise can be difficult to recommend. I took NorCal’s advise as he is watering 2 1/2 gals once week up in Northern California BUT he doesn’t start watering until June. In my research...

New Pinot Noir Vines Not Anything

I’ll premise my response by letting you know I am by far not an expert on growing grape vines. The fact that they are weeds they are very forgiving/hardy. We are also in different USDA Zones. I will tell you that like you, I’m also impatient but I don’t think 3 weeks is enough to see a big...

Stop by the 1 Dog Ranch

Just wanted to show you guys my place. We had the house built July 2018, and I’m looking to wrap my yard perimeter with grape vines. While I’m at it I figured I may as well learn how to grow great table grapes, thanks for stopping by.

    Post your clusters

My contribution to your thread sir, The first picture is my Cab-Sav, the second picture is my Black Monukka. These were taken this morning.

MontanaRick, It may well be that too as I'm still learning what to do and what not to do. I used a water and dish soap mix to keep bugs off the leaves as recommended as an organic bug deterrent. Three key elements I need help in is: 1) Frequency of watering - with NorCal's input it seems like I...

NorCal, what USDA Zone are you in? I’m in zone 8 it gets pretty hot down here. We average 95-100 during the summer. I don’t want to over/under water. I’d like to set it and forget it if there’s such a setting.

    Help needed

I went from drip system to sprinkler system for my backyard grapes (9 vines in all ). In just a day or two my Thompsons are showing what I believe is water stress. My Venessa and Cab-Sav look fine. I decided to go back to the drip system. El Paso’s weather is starting to transition to averages...

Can anyone tell me what grapevine variety this is?

I hate when places simply mark them as "Variety".

Can anyone tell me what grapevine variety this is?

So I went down to the Nursery I bought them from last year. They have two varieties that look like mine, the Pinot and the Vanessa. So at this point its anybody's guess.

    Looks Promising

Lucky for me I have 9 vines, 5 varieties. This one is the one I’m using to learn with. I have another Thompson I will take fruit from this year just to feed my impatience, lol.

    Looks Promising

Since I'm committed to waiting until my fourth year to harvest grapes I went and pulled these off. Seems to me this vine is ready to provide a good amount if all conditions are good next year.

    Am I on track?

Here is my before and after on suckers/shoot thining. You may notice that I left support shoots next to the ones I’m training. That’s because with the heavy El Paso winds I’m not sure the chosen ones will not get snapped by the 40mph+ winds.

Can anyone tell me what grapevine variety this is?

Very good guys, After extensive searches I found this. Now my concern is that I also read that concord does better in colder areas up north. I’m in zone 8 where we have brutal summers. Not sure how this will work here in El Paso.

    Am I on track?

I’m not sure, from what I’ve read I should train it for the first 3yrs then look to have a crop. This is only my second year, so I doubt it. Wonder if I’m preparing correctly for a good crop.

    Am I on track?

This is one of my Thompson vines that seems to be out pacing the others ( not that the others are doing bad, they’re fine). I just want to stay a step ahead. My Thompsons are going into their second year in my backyard, I bought them about a foot tall. My PH is 7, my drip system is a 2gal per hr...

Can anyone tell me what grapevine variety this is?

When I picked this up as a young vine I believe it had a Thompson tag on it. I’ve since misplaced it and not really sure if it was a Thompson. It’s the only one I have with a rose color to it. My other Thompsons all budded and leaved 100% green. Also, since it’s the only wirey type I was open to...

Joining the group Take II ...

I currently have 2 Cab-Sav, 3 Thompson’s, 1Black Manuka, 1Summer Royal, and 1 Syrah. The cable is set at 40” high and I did plan on having the catch wire higher up (not sure if that’s the correct way). Btw, I’m in El Paso Texas located on the far west tip, not humid at all. I’ve added a picture...

Joining the group Take II ...

By the way I also used “Fruit/ citrus” food on my vines, why? Because I have no idea what I’m doing. They showed grapes on the picture so I guessed it wouldn’t hurt.
