    Help Fermentation wont start

Pitched more yeast mixed with warm juice and water this morning, after an hour I can hear bubbling in the barrel, I might have fixed the problem. I used 4 times more yeast than recommended on the packet, then added some more for good luck.

What in Grape Wine is Causing Migraines?

I wonder if taking an anti histamine pill alleviates hangovers for those that get them?

What in Grape Wine is Causing Migraines?

Very Technical but maybe its the alcohol types in wine. "Apart from ethanol, glycerol and 2,3-butanediol are the principal alcohols in wine. " https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK531662/

What in Grape Wine is Causing Migraines?

I never get hangovers. I have noted my delicate missis gets hangovers SOMeTIMeS, after drinking red wines. I wonder if the chemicals used are still there on the skins. Whereas whites are not fermented on the skins with chemical residues

    Last years yeast

My grapes are soon going to be ready. I still have yeast and nutrient from last year in open packets. I just read the label on the yeast packet and it says once opened use quickly. The Yeast is Enertis Ferm SB and the Nutrient is Enartis Nutriferm Special. Is the yeast or nutrient likely to...

    Grapes dropping?

My grapes are entering veraison, harvest in 4 to 6 weeks. yippee I carried out a final spray last week against mildew, and used a leaf fertilizer. I have noticed some clusters are dropping grapes to the floor whereas others are ok. Was it a mistake to use a leaf fertilizer at this stage in...

How to Shoot Thin in the Vineyard

I saw some vineyards yesterday which looked like they had been massacred. Lots of shoots had been removed, exposing all the fruit under the canopies. Only the shoots with grapes on were left. Does anyone shoot thin prior to or during Veraison? If so how much foliage should be removed.

    Grape Mite - Eriophyes Vitis

Thanks for the explanation, it makes it clear how the agricultural advisor looked at one leaf and said europhyes, and then when I showed him another from another vine it was phylloxoria. This advisor was the boss advisor as opposed to the office junior I spoke to earlier, he is recommended not...

    Grape Mite - Eriophyes Vitis

I live on an island, with sea spray at times in the air from storms, the vines dont appear to be adversely affected by it. Some leaf burn perhaps! Roundup is the isopropylamine salt of glyphosate . What dose of sea salt are you using on your vines? Large doses of salt are used here occasionally...

    Grape Mite - Eriophyes Vitis

Grapes need helping to fight mildew. Some organic folk use milk diluted with water to fight mildew, sulphur is also organic and is used by most growers. My sister recommended using cooking oil (sunflower) and washing up liquid diluted with water to kill black fly, on my citrus trees. This works...

    Grape Mite - Eriophyes Vitis

The latest, news on my little problem. I had a visit from the local agricultural advisory service EXPERT yesterday, and he checked my vines and fruit trees. The conclusion ref my vines is that i have some Phylloxera and some Eriopphyes, which if it was worse he would recommend a pesticide. He...

    Well water for wine question

I used to live in a cottage in North Wales, the water came directly from the lake unfiltered. The water was soft and good tasting. The lake also had all kinds of wild life in it. The only thing we found worse than finding a tadpole in your glass of water, was finding half of one when you had...
