    Southeast Kansas vineyard

And yes, I know those trees at the back have to go. They are not a desirable variety, anyway, and the rest of the yard is well wooded with pecan and other trees.

    Southeast Kansas vineyard

We recently purchased this place with a small vineyard. It's hard to tell from the picture but a number of the vines are dead and the live ones have wayward growth stretching 20-30 feet along the wire. I will be replace a number of them. What is left is most likely concord. I've spent the...

    Stubborn label glue removal mistake?

A little bit of dish soap in your water that you shake up will easily remove the goo gone. I would make sure I shake the bottle with plain water after that. Shake with rinse water until no more suds appears.

Skeeter is now my best seller

Hmm. It appears to be stalling again. Fermentation is still going but very slowly. One carboy had all but stopped. This morning I added yeast nutrient and energizer. SG is still up around 1.07-1.08. It has a long way to go!

    What's in your glass tonight?

I'm enjoying some wine made from Norton grapes by a gentleman here who has a vineyard. He has given me 4 bottles of wine to enjoy and try from 4 of the different grapes he has in his vineyard. He will give me cuttings from the ones I decide I like the best. He has also become my vineyard...

Skeeter is now my best seller

Well my skeeter pee didn't start very well. I added 2/3 of the lemon at first. I thought to rescue it I would have to divide the 5 gallons, dilute to 10 gallons, add sugar and let it start again without adding more lemon. I did and it has been going well since then. I will need to add more...

    Used wine bottles

How much oxiclean in how much water? I just obtained quite a few bottles and label removal takes so much time!

"New" old wine press and jackpot!

Once again I feel very blessed! I went to the local vineyard to see if I could help prune his vines and return his bottles . He needed to stay by the phone so we just talked. With his help I learned which red wine grape I want for my vineyard and I'm narrowing down my choices for a white. He...

    starting cuttings

This is going to make me sound nuttier than a fruitcake but a gentleman from a local vineyard advised me he ONLY roots his cuttings upside down in a bucket of sand. He said one year he tried to start 200 cuttings by sticking them in the ground. Unfortunately it was a very dry year and he lost...

Yeast after flavor or "off" flavor.

Thanks for the comments. This 6 gallon batch is now topped up, sulfite added and aging in the carboy. I want to start a batch of skeeter pee before summer, I sure could use this carboy. Looks like I'll just have to get another one!

Yeast after flavor or "off" flavor.

This is the gewurztraminer kit that I totally messed up on the beginning. I added a packet of potassium metabisulfate/sorbate when I thought I was adding yeast. I just inadvertently grabbed the wrong packet. Thanks to members of this forum I was able to rescue it after a few days with a...

    Show Us Your Pets

Balotonwine-So sorry for your loss. We recently had to put our faithful, sweet, loving great pyrenees down. He was our livestock guardian and he did his job. I cried and cried. We have other dogs, though. This one is Marley. She is a wounded deer tracking dog. She has found many, many deer...

Does this antique wine grape press look like it would work?

$400 seems a bit high to me. I paid $400 for this one at a farm auction recently. 2 baskets, press and crusher- the crusher is on the bottom for hauling purposes.
