    Filtering heavy sediment

What's the rush, why not just let it settle out more before racking... time and gravity is your friend. IF you really need to rack, then as said, save it in a jar in the fridge to settle out more. If its cold enough out side, then just put outside in a cold dark location. our night temps are...

yes I have found some residue will come off with scrubby and hot soapy water, just choose not to fight it. Too many bottles out there to struggle.

    I need wine bottles!

yea sure, I use "1 step" with hot water to soak them, 1step has a bubbling action that helps to lift the labels, and hot water helps to loosen most glues used on labels There are some elastic / plastic type labels on some bottles, I stopped trying to get those off and toss the bottles.

    I need wine bottles!

I think its been said, but I got my start into wine bottle collection by hitting up the manager at my local steak house. He pointed me to the recycle botles out back. Eventually he also saved the boxes for me and set them aside. I'd pick them up in the morning time when they are closed.

Floandgary, I call it Pot K around the house, sorry Sorbistat K. Arne, Yes it was completely done. After time I added sugar to sweet'n it up a bit. It was about 2yr old, so from what I read, degassing is not necessary. Sal, Nope still nice white little capsules/tubes.

    Wine bottle cleaning

thanks to Steve for his help in sanitizing. Your experience is a great help. I have my pump and nozzles on order to create a much better faster system of cleaning. No more 3 days of dishwasher use... My sweetie will appreciate not having to do the dishes by hand.....

    Pot K (sorbastat)

I know some chemicals have issues... like Meta is hydrophilic and so it absorbs water after time, Pectin enzyme will wear out or just plain become ineffective. What about Pot K? I have some wines I know i added the directed amount of Pot K and Meta to after adding sugar when bottling, and yet...

    Wine bottle cleaning

Nope, I did find this Sunday looking through the picutures on this site. It is very similar, but it was in a platic square box. I think it was PVC pipe as main nozzle system.

    Wine bottle cleaning

About 2-3 years ago, in a wine making magazine, I found a cool rack someone made. It resembled a bottom rack in a dish washer. It had about 16 nozzles that you would put the bottles over, it had a pump to circulate the cleaning liquid and switch valve to use Nitrogen to dry out. Does anyone...

    Super Jet vs Vacuum Filter

I'm beginning to think its vacuum that is the key... the ##$%^ mini jet leaks soo much. Not a fan. Mind you I deal with chemical and pumps at work all day long. and if they leak OMG its huge... nasty chemicals... so Yes I'm not liking the leaking of this unit. Need to find a better way

    washing bottles in the dishwasher

I do use a dishwasher... typically life cycle is as follows.... -- drink wine -- rinse bottle -- after few bottles soak in sink with 1 Step cleaner -- scrub labels in sink -- put on wine bottle rack to drain... --put in box to store --when time for bottling, put in dishwasher to sterilize...

    Anyone attempted a port?

for me I make a Port Cab. I usually get cab grapes / juice from my local guy I get all my grapes from, I add good high alcohol yeast and keep adding in the sugar until it stops. then rack off. I don't normally fortify as most ports do. This year Cab was not good season, I will be using a kit...
