Copper Tun” Heating Pad for Fermenters

If you read the onsite reviews and believe them, several people state that it gets too hot. I can believe this as it does not appear to have any controls. It looks like it should work providing you monitor your wine periodically and don't let it run away. One should say hello to their wine on a...

Good point Grapeman. From the beginning I have tried to get the OP to do some research. As a SC Master Gardener, Clemson does it for me. Florida must have an equivalent Ag college. Terry

    Can I plant and prune?

The wire fence should work. Find the 2 strongest trunks and separate out the rest. If the trunks will reach the fence, tie it off and spread out the rest of the same trunk left and right of center. Go out 4 feet and cut off the vine. Prune out every thing else except the 2 trunks spread out to...

    Can I plant and prune?

Sorry, just reread you last post. If it is rootbound don't coddle it. Take a sharp knife or small saw and cut into the boot ball vertically making cuts all around the circumfrence. Spread out the roots and plant in a hole 3x's the width of the root ball. Terry

    Can I plant and prune?

James, In your area you can plant right now while the vine is dormant. Make sure the vine is in a well drained spot. Most grapes need a neutral soil; have a soil test done by the university extension service. Most likely you will need to add lime. Do you have a trellis? Prune to 2 main...

    Jumped the gun

I started a batch of Dragon's Blood today. This is a first having never thought that anything not made from grapes would be wine. That is until I found this forum. You would think the recipe would be a no brainer. (Daves recipe) But I did not add the pectic enzyme. Why, I do not have any. It is...

    Late harvest cab franc

This is obviously a juice bucket. Why such a small quantity? It should take off with the yeast,. Maybe some Bentonite in the primary. I will guess 1 tsp. But the resident experts should know exactly. Terry

Ordered the wrong size label stock

I ordered self stick labels printed 4 to a page (approx. 4"X5". I think I goofed, they are too big. Be honest, what do you think? Stock that comes 6 to a page I believe would be better. I now have 400 of these so will have to use them up. Better get busy. I should have 120 to do this spring...

    Other White wine too dry

Yes, I meant primary fermentation. I just tasted the sample after refrigeration and it tasted a little better. I can discern the fruitiness now. Let's see what happens with some more time at colder temps. Terry
