    Question about cuttings

Not yet, and hopefully it won’t get here in my lifetime. I’m in Washington, not here yet. Poster has all natives and hybrids, I think but what do I know. So hopefully they don’t have a worry.

    What grapes are you growing??

No idea where you are, but I’ll happily post you some Malbec for Alicante. My Malbec is only 4 years old, but coming on nice. Seems to love our hot summers. I’m having a love/ hate with Tempranillo. It is growing like crazy, but I’ve some what I suspect is leaf roll virus, and tons of mildew...

    Fanleaf virus or herbicide damage

Wow! I’d at least make a phone call or write a nasty letter. I second letting the county/township know. It may be that he just didn’t know any better, and if you let him know he’ll not repeat. I live in a fruit growing r3gion converting to wine grapes. Both of my neighbor orchards are very open...

Broken Ankle and the All in One

Ankles can be a pain. I hope your heals quick and forever. I’m sure red grape juice helps.

    Question about cuttings

I’m guessing you are on your way to good roots. I’d go ahead and plant them in the fall, before freeze but when you get good moisture. They’ll continue to grow roots all winter. If your final vineyard isn’t ready, put them in a spot with lots of sand so you can dig them up in the early spring...

    Fanleaf virus or herbicide damage

Ouch. Not guaranteed virus free? Let’s hope for spray drift from the heavens. A brutal idea I tried on my Temp. Yes a different virus. Prune one back to a couple of nodes. See what grows back. Mine, had the same symptoms. Maybe not scientific but I was frustrated.

    Fanleaf virus or herbicide damage

Can’t weigh in on what it is, but is it on all vines? If not, my virus experience is use separate tools until you know for sure. I gradually spread what I think is leaf roll with my pruning shears, one vine at a time. I just took out what I hope is the last sick vine. Bought a cheap pair of...

Do you drink, while making wine?

Picking, crushing, pressing parties, after all the work is done. We start early and end with lunch. I usually end up finishing the cleaning by myself in the afternoon. Bottleing, racking etc. I do alone so QA sampling and leftovers are par for the course. But then, blending parties. All about...

    2018 in the vineyard

Hot, dog days of summer. Most grapes are pea-berry size. We were nice and cool until mid last week. Now pushing 100. 8 hours of water this weekend. A little mildew has showed up on the Tempranillo, but nowhere else. Leafhoppers are under control, for now. I visited a wine tasting room yesterday...

    2018 in the vineyard

Well, Spring has gotten away from me, but I’m mostly keeping up with the vineyard. Tucking shoots and pulling suckers is a daily escape from the pressures of life. Looks like bloom is about 50% give or take a little for the different grapes, maybe 20,21 on the Coombe E-L stage system.

    Syrah From Grapes Issue

I agree with @sdelli. I’d look for something with good structure, tannins, to blend in. Petit Sirah works well in small amounts, 10% or so, for me.

Glass tasting class by Mr. Riedel himself in Graz Austria. Would have learned a lot more if I understood German. I can say I could tell the difference in glass in. “Deaf” tasting of different wines. Too bad the glasses won’t fit in the luggage.

    Help with 3 y/o transplants

If they were bare root, I’d prune back to two buds as close to or on the main trunk as possible. Get a stake in the ground and train the shoots up to your fruiting wire. If they make it by fall you are good. Vine 3. Jpg. I’d pinch off 5, prune 1/2 in, 1 cm above 3. If 4 comes on strong prune...
