What fruit or berry plant can grow good in zone 8A?

I have blueberry bushes that are 20 years old, about 7 ft tall. For me it took a good 10 years after planting them to start getting berries. Now i get gallons of berries and have always had very acidic soil. I had fruit on my apple and pear trees I planted before the blueberries.

    The great white wine competition

I want to put in my 2 cents. To me any wine or beer for that matter chilled much below 60* you lose the taste of fine flavors. But heck it could because all the time I spent in Southern Europe:h

Is Fermentation ok / can the gas escape due to foam?

You should be fermenting in an open bucket. Not in a carboy with an airlock. Pour mix into a bucket cover with a lid just resting on top, if you do not have a lid use a tee shirt. The idea is to keep fruit flies out of the fermentation. Stir the must 1 or 2 times a day. This will help the...

What fruit or berry plant can grow good in zone 8A?

Many years ago I was stationed in Norfolk during my time in the Navy. I remember seeing a lot of Persimmon trees. They have lot of fruit that can be used for wine. Good luck. Find a local nursery, they will have everything there and know what will grow the best.

Removing Grow Tubes on 6 Month Old Vines in Virginia

I will leave my grow tubes on the 16 vines I planted last spring. Have done it before on lots of vines, have had no ill effects. Where I live if i uncovered them the deer and other critters would have them eaten to the ground by next spring.

Looking good. There are 2 types of cherry peppers, sweet and hot. I have grown and canned the sweet, very similar recipe. Need to try and cut the top off, take out the seeds and stuff with a small cube of sharp provolone wraped with a strip of prosciutto and canned I also put about 1/4" of...

    Weedy questions

Weeding sucks, i have and still use grass clippings betweens my vines. Early spring i spray ortho ground clear concentrate that kills all summer, well it doesn't last all summer but it lastes longer than normal roundup. As far as grass clippings, just move them a way from the stocks of the...

    Cork problems ...

The cork in the pic looks fine to me. Just need to filter the wine (lose some flavor and taste) or rack it more. I rack my wines at least 4 times over a year. And i am very gentle when I rack.

    Sweetness

Its easy if you have and use a hydrometer. If you use it you can tell if the wine has fermented completely, in other words used up all the sugar. Some wines will taste sweeter than others even if fermented completely. I believe it has to do with the grapes, some wines have more fruity flavor...

    Acidity

Check you ph again after you press. You can live with the Ph you have but you must be real careful with your wine, make sure you use k-meta. With low Ph your wine is opened up to spoilage and after being bottled the shelf life is not as long. Chances are the numbers will change some after...

    Crusher / destemmer question.

The problem I see is the tub catching the must. You said it will hold 14 gal. If you fill it that is about 112 lbs (figuring 8 lbs per gal) I would think that the tub would flex terribly and you will have a hell of a mess not even mentioning getting tired. Need a way to go right into a 32...
