Drove up to Copper Harbor, MI Saturday and golfed at the historic Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. The fall colors were beautiful (sorry picture is sideways!) and enjoyed the beautiful scenery on Lake Superior!

    making wine from Marquette grapes

I agree, I’ve tried some that are a little sour, but I’ve never ran into this earthy, off-putting odor and taste. I’m going to assume it was an issue with the winemaker, because I’ve tasted others that were fine! I’ve also heard about a “flash” bath of high heat that’s suppose to improve...

    making wine from Marquette grapes

I just had some Marquette wine from a commercial winery and I was disappointed in how “foxy” “earthy”, I’m not sure of the best descriptors to use, that the smell and taste were. I also have 25 vines that I’m going to start getting grapes off of next year and I’d be interested in any advice on...

Hello from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!

i tried to upload some pics, but they said they were too large. I have 35 vines planted last year, 25 Marquette & 10 Frontenac. This year I planted 25 Petite Pearl and 10 Itasca. They’re all doing good, although I’ve had deer pressure on my new vines because I’m waiting for fencing to be put up...

Hello from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!

I’m in Chassell which is a little way out of Houghton, home of Michigan Tech. We are at the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula, so we get about 200” of snow a year. I’m hoping the snow will keep my grapes insulated all winter!
