All You Need to Get Started!

Everyone is too kind - I love Winemaking Talk! It's like you're all my friends. 💕 I have a new shopping list and am so excited to try a kit(s)! And I REALLY want Steve's pump but might wait on that until next year. In the near future I'll probably end up spending more than I was asking for all...

All You Need to Get Started!

Checkiing out colomafrozen.com - for beginner wine should I buy juice, or juice concentrate? How much would you recommend for a 3 gallon carboy? When you say country wine is that anything other than grape? Maybe I'll try a one gallon strawberry - is that a starter wine? Thanks! Ann

All You Need to Get Started!

😂 Too funny, so true. If I had that pump, and a bottle washer attached to my faucet, and a kit, I would start tonight! I better take down my post. 🤪

All You Need to Get Started!

Wow you guys are ambitious! I think I put off starting new batches, straining, racking, etc. because all the cleaning and sanitizing of the buckets, carboys, and tubing is such a pain. I would welcome any hot tips to make cleaning and sanitizing faster and easier?

All You Need to Get Started!

Thanks so much for the kind words and offer to help with your experience and advice. I think I was overwhelmed with all the details. I’m sure with lots more experience the process wouldn’t seem so complicated. Now I’m rethinking! Let’s see how this goes.

All You Need to Get Started!

Winemaking - All You Need! Does anyone know someone in Southern CA looking to start Wine Making? I’m not proud of it, but I want to bail out and sell all my equipment and supplies. I live at the top of the grapevine off I-5 between LA and Bakersfield and would be willing to drive a reasonable...

    Your suggestions for grape/blackberry?

If I'm reading my hydrometer correctly, I think I have pretty high sugar already. 1.104? Picture below. And my son gave me a refractometer for Christmas - confusing! - but I think it's reading around 23 brix. Would you say I don't really need to add any sugar?

    Your suggestions for grape/blackberry?

I bought three grape vines 10? years ago to cover an ugly stretch of fence and they are producing like crazy. I hate to waste them, so I dove in last year and made a batch of wine. I didn't really know what I was doing, and I don't know what type of grapes I have. Seller said they might have...

curiousity on how long to keep wine in carboy

You and Julia (above) both had that great suggestion to just rack to a second carboy to reduce sediment and provide an opportunity to add the sulfites with out disturbing the wine too much. Will it be a problem if my current carboy is full and is 3 gallon size, then I rack to a 5 gallon carboy...

curiousity on how long to keep wine in carboy

Hi Julie. Thanks for taking the time to respond! This is my first time and I used fresh grapes/juice and about one cup of sugar per gallon thinking that might bump up the fermentation/alcohol a bit. Primary fermentation (started early Oct) seemed to go great - stirred twice a day and it was...

curiousity on how long to keep wine in carboy

How should I add sulfite to the carboy - I'm afraid to stir/blend it at this stage.
