    North Eastern Ohio

Too funny! My brother lives in Willoughby, he's pretty good friends with someone who works there..........they've tried my Skittle wine and found it "unique". Small world!

Welcome to WMT Lockwood! Brew Mentor is great! They have an excellent variety of different grains and other homebrew ingredients. My brother lives about ten minutes away from there, so when ever I go out to visit, I always stop in there. They just moved into a really good sized store.

Getting ready for the lay offs

Thank you everyone! I have an interview next week with one agency, and am currently arranging for an interview with a second agency (hopefully next week).

    Maple Wine

Sorry it took a few days. Now that I'm in my basement with my laptop, here it is! I'm horrible at writing things down, I usually add ingredients until I get numbers I like, but here's what I did. This was for a 3 gallon batch. Approximately 2 gallons water Dark Grade B Maple Syrup to bring...

    Maple Wine

Last fall I started a 3 gallon batch of maple wine using Grade B Dark Maple Syrup, and used orange juice for acid. It has been clear for several months and decided to take a taste and backsweeten today. I used a small bottle of more Dark, Grade A syrup to bring it up to a SG of 1.004. I'm...

Where/How Do You Store All Your "Stuff"?

My stuff takes up half my basement! All my chemical are in canning jars with the plastic lids (not the rings that they come with), I have a shelf which stores all my chemicals and gallon jugs (got it at Target). I have a few large tables/shelves made up of old counter tops (from both our...

Cellar Craft Enzyme pack in Old Vine Zinfandel kit

Funny this came up because I noticed that same phenomenon in one of my CC kits the other day, except I don't have an enzyme pack! I did everything via the kit instructions, but thought that something had infected my wine as well (even though I had just added the sulfite a few weeks before). I...

    Quick Chromatography Question

Not to worry, I only meant that I wasn't planning on bottling it until it had spent at least 18 months in the carboy to age, I am planning on racking and adding sulfite when it's finished with the MLF. When fall and winter comes, the basement will be about 60-65 degrees. It only gets to 70-75...

Sad times at Nabinger Family Winery

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses Duster, both of your father, and of what it has done to your family. I feel the same, that I have made a lot of friends on this forum, and know that you have support here as well! As BobF said, hopefully some of these ill feelings will dissipate as the...

Getting ready for the lay offs

Thanks! Our current company has been trying to make this as painless as possible, and I'm interested to see what the new company that is buying the agency has to say. I'm pretty hopeful that they will be hiring a lot of us, but we really won't know. And we don't really know what to expect as...

    Quick Chromatography Question

I'm not really in any rush, I'm probably going to let them sit in the carboys at least 18 months. Right now our basement is 75 degrees.

Getting ready for the lay offs

So it's been a long week at work. We had a lot of long meetings this week that have been pretty depressing. I work for a home health agency that is being sold, so we are all getting laid off. They had someone come in and meet with us to tell us pretty much what to do once laid off (applying...

    Quick Chromatography Question

I plan on racking the one that appears finished this weekend, the other one I'll test again in another month or so (it has been working for about 5 weeks now). I can still see the little bubbles in both of them, even without a flashlight. Since the other one is done, I'm guessing it's probably...

    Check out page 80!!!!!

Ha ha! I actually read that article the other day when I got the magazine! Congratulations, good job!

    beginner carboy question

I have one gallon batches all over my basement, mostly because my neighbor keeps giving me these 4L Carlo Rossi jugs, so I just keep filling them up! Small batches are good for experimental wines. (Why spend all that money for ingredients for a batch of wine if you don't know if it's any...

    Old record player...

That is wicked! Nice piece. I should start hitting up the tag sales or flea markets to get some great finds some day........ I'm sure it'll look great when it's done.
