    SG reading

I have a digital scales that is very accurate, so I'm sure I added 1/2 of the sugar each time. After I mashed the peaches and poured boiling water on them, it said top off to 2 gallons after it cool. I may or may not have hit the 2 gallons on the nose. Would less water make higher alcohol?

    SG reading

I'm making a 2 gallon batch. The initial SG reading after I added the 1st half of the sugar (2 1/2 lbs) was 1.06. Five days later, I added the other half, and after adding, the reading was 1.04. I did not take a reading before adding the second half, however there was a strong fermentation...

    SG reading

I have a recipie for peach wine that calls for adding 1/2 of the sugar into the original solution, then the other half of the sugar 5 days later after straining. I took the SG readings after each time, but am unsure now how to figure the potential alcohol. Does anyone have any insight?

    Energizer..any substitue?

I was down in Whitehall, MI and picked up 5 pounds of fresh blueberries, then ran into the same problem you had - no enigizer. I ended up freezing the berries for a week until I could order the enigizer on line - started the wine last Saturday, looks great, bubbling away.

    New in Michigan

No grapes to sell yet, in fact this first year has been a process of prepping my field (2.5 acres), and installing deer fences. The grapes won't ship until May 2009, then it will be 3 years before I can harvest my first crop. I'm located in Rose City, so the grapes on order are all very...

    No 'Legs' in my wine...

I have heard a number of times that legs is not an indicator of the quality of the wine.

WineXpert -3Brothers- wants to know: Anyone made this kit?

I just made the Wildberry Shiraz, and everyone who tastes it simply loves it. It is on the sweet side, but a nice summer wine that can even be drank over ice. Has a strong hint of rasberry.

    Anyone have their own vineyard?

For the deer problem, check out deerbusters.com. They sell vinyl type deer fences, the cost seems reasonable. I ordered samples of the fencing on their website and it looks like something I may go with.

    Confused about degassing.

So basically you would use it for both reds & whites? I'm new to this, and started with SunCal concentrates (Penot Noir and Cab Sav) and the directions did not mention degassing. Then tried a Guevertraminer (sp?) and it recommended stirring (degassing) in one of the final steps. But it looks...

    Confused about degassing.

I just received my new stirring device also. Does anyone have any general rules as to when to use it?

I saw some 3 gallon bottled water plastic containers for sale in Wal-Marts. Do you think these would work?

    Dreams?

I'm going to give it a try. Have 3 acres that I will try to plant next spring. Lots of research involved so far but lots of information available from numerous sources (colleges, websites, forums, local wineries). I plan on starting by selling only the grapes, but who knows where it will...

    Anyone have their own vineyard?

I live in northern Michigan and have 2 acres I'm thinking of converting to a vineyard. I'll be retiring in approx 3 years. Still in the exploration states, but my plot is gentle north to south sloping and was previously a corn field, but hasn't been worked in about 10 years. Looking for all the...

    New in Michigan

I have 2 acres of gently sloping land in central-northern Michigan. After visiting the vineyards in Traverse City, I decided to take the plung and start my own vineyard. I have 3 years before I retire and that's when my first grapes should arrive. From what I've heard, I have buyers for all the...

    Hello from Michigan

After taking my first wine tasting trip to Traverse City two weeks ago, I became very interested in starting my own vineyard and wine tasting business. I own approx 2 acres of north-to-south sloping farm field that has not been farmed for about 10-years. I have about 3 more years before I...
