    Beware Greenbarnnursery.ca

I ordered several hundred dollars worth of grape and fruit tree stock though Green Barn Nurseries located in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, Quebec. It was a complete bust. They took payment for all of my order in March and only delivered part of my order and it was mostly sad looking stock that...

    Thoughts on Tile Drain?

I think I might take my chance and keep an eye on it. We've had a major bout of rain, 3 local communities have declared a state of emergency and rivers are higher than 100 year old records so this water may not be the norm. It dried up in about a day and a half. I 'll be a pain but it's a...

    Thoughts on Tile Drain?

http://s1059.photobucket.com/user/willjayc/media/IMAG0454.jpg.htmlAs I've mentioned before in a few other posts, I'm putting in a small amount of vines in Central Ontario. I've been working laying out the vineyard and getting all my supplies in order. My 42 vines will be showing up anytime in...

    Plastic Mulch?

I also have used newspaper for veggies for many years. Works well.....maybe worth considering for some vines, never even thought of it. I however used to use STRAW over the paper to weigh it down and eventually add some organic matter. Problem is when you don't get good straw and it has seed...

    Plastic Mulch?

I usually can't produce enough finished compost so I have in the past bought it from the landfill (our county has organics collection). Problem is that it usually comes with seeds so kind of defeats the purpose of a weed barrier IMHO.

    Plastic Mulch?

Thanks, once again Grapeman. I think I will sit on the idea for a few more days but I am leaning towards plastic mulch. I have a busy schedule in the summer and I inevitably end up neglecting my gardens somewhat so maybe a time saving device is probably not a bad thing. I absolutely...

    Plastic Mulch?

Putting in my first vines, about 42 of them. I was planning on clean cultivating immediately around them then cutting grass in between the rows but have been put on to the idea of using some poly mulch to keep the weeds down. I don't really like the idea of the plastic for environmental...

Anyone want to buy some of my extra vines?

I put them up on the Kijiji classifieds last night and by 10 am the next morning I had a local guy who said he'd buy my extra. Worked out great.

Where can I get vines in Ontario?

Just came across Green Barn Nurseries out of Quebec that have a great selection of hardy seedless grapes and also have some seeded varieties as well. You can find them at greenbarnnursery.ca. Wish I had have found them earlier as now I have ordered too many vines!

Anyone want to buy some of my extra vines?

I have ordered some extra vines for spring delivery to meet pricing discounts I will have about 25 extra vines total with 2 or 3 of each of the varieties listed below. If anyone local to Central Ontario (Orillia) is interested please let me know and I will sell them to you at the price they...

Where can I get vines in Ontario?

I'm on page 60! Yes it is great. I think I've learned more about growing grapes from this forum in the last week than from all the fruit growing books I own. Grapeman - what zone are you in? I've ordered all my vines: St Pepin St Croix Kay Grey Marquette Somerset Got them from...

Where can I get vines in Ontario?

offdagrid - thanks....I've checked Veseys and TT Seeds already......just not a great selection and their prices are a bit much if buying 40 vines. I however did have 4 vines that I bought from Veseys at our old house and they were good quality but we moved in their 3rd year. I am sure the new...

Where can I get vines in Ontario?

Thanks for the replies. I have found Mori Vines but they only sell a minimum of 25 vines per species and I am looking at 10 vines each and 4 or 5 species so I won't meet their minimum order requirements. I also just stumbled across Voloaca Nurseries and they seem like they may work for me...

Where can I get vines in Ontario?

I am planning on starting a small vineyard with about 40-50 vines in South/Central Ontario. I am having difficulty deciding on which varieties to plant and where to get them. We are located at the edge of zone 4b/5a. Between Barrie and Orillia in Ontario. Not typical grape growing area...
