    How Many Varieties to Start?

But which ones?! The number of choices is maddening. We are thinking about just rolling the dice and leave it up to fate.

    How Many Varieties to Start?

That is a good point. Our rows are a bit on the shorter side, 60ft. So o e tow of each would be more efficient and give us some room for error in wine making. Thank you. 🙏 It is still very difficult to choose.

    How Many Varieties to Start?

Yes, that is good advice. We are going on a grand vineyard tour this summer and already went to a few. And I have been testing quite a bit of wine 😂. It's just very difficult to choose. We had similar difficulty in selecting our chicken breeds. Best of luck with your vineyard! Please post photos.

    New Home Vineyard

Would you suggest not grafting Cab Franc then? We were really excited about this variety. We are on the border of zone 5, 6. What did you lose the vines to?

    How Many Varieties to Start?

We are doing a test vineyard to see which varieties grow best before planting a much larger area with the "winners". How many varieties should we start with? We narrowed down our choices but still have 8 white and 10 red varieties we really want to try. The amount of research we put in is...

Curious to know how your vines are doing? We are thinking about Crimson Pearl and Marquette.

First year vines - Blue-X tube question

I had a similar question with our vineyard. We have issues with deer and gophers who decimate everything. Where did you get your tubes? Love that there is a gnome guarding the vines 😍

    Realistic Spacing Question

We are planning out a home vineyard of about 30 vines. Every article we read or person we speak with recommends spacing of 6, 8ft between vines and up to 10 or 12 ft between rows. All the Vineyards we have visited have less space between vines (3ft). Why are we getting mixed answers? The...

Sorry to hear about the vines. That is quite a disappointment!

    Grapes from cuttings

Is there anyone in Massachusetts, Rhode Island or New Hampshire willing to give a beginner cuttings in exchange for vegetable starts?

    New Home Vineyard

We are having trouble deciding between Marquette and Frontenac. They seems so similar. For a beginner choosing a vine feels like a big commitment and I'm afraid of making the wrong choice and finding out 4 years later.

Post a Meme, any Meme! (no politics)

Springtime is so exciting and nerve-wracking. I want all the plants to succeed!

    Wild grape experiment

We found what I can only describe as a jungle mass of wild grape vine. It may have been planted from a previous owner but it is in a strange spot so we are unsure. We took some cuttings and are hopeful. We will have to see what kind it is but the vines were so prolific we might use it as...

    Vineyard From the Beginning- Grapeman

Thank you for saying this. We've been going back and forth on this very thing. East/west just feels right with the land we have chosen. After visiting a few sucessful vineyards with every configuration possible, we are more confident that our little vineyard isn't doomed from the start.

    New Home Vineyard

We are on a small homestead in Massachusetts. We will be starting a vineyard (20 - 30 vines) next spring. There are two areas we could use that get full sun. Unfortunately both are flat and one was pasture so it will require significant drainage. We are doing 5-6ft between vines and 6-8ft row...
