Other How do you rack down?

It's funny (sad) that everything seems to be viewed context of politics now-a-days. My bad! My brother is a lefty (hand) 🤣 and he would agree with you. I know @winemaker81 uses various sized containers with success. As such, he might have some good tips and tricks for you. I have some...

WineXpert Bottling first kit ever, SO2 question

I get a lot of bottles from friends and neighbors. My BIGGEST fear in winemaking has been nasties left behind in used bottles. If using new bottles, I rinse in a solution of 3 tbs kmeta (or NaMeta) to 1 gal water. Drain excess and use. No rinsing or waiting prior to bottling. If using...

Other How do you rack down?

@leftiesrule I'm relatively new to this sport but in my short tenure, I've come to a few realizations about making wine with the help from others on this forum. The people on here are the best and so helpful! In my opinion, don't overcomplicate the process. Once your rack to secondary, just...

Ooo-ooo that smell! Can you smell that smell?

Do you have a HSA or FSA? Maybe you can justify using health care funds for purchasing a AIO pump. 😆 Wouldn't that be nice!

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits (FWK) Not Clearing - Need Ideas!

And after a quick Google search it sounds like RO doesn't strip dissolved gases (O2, CO2) so that might be the one major difference between RO and distilled finished product However, I would think that stirring the water/must (like during punch down) would reoxygenate it.

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits (FWK) Not Clearing - Need Ideas!

I recommended an RO system. I didn't mention distilled water. I would use tap water rather through a carbon filter before I would use distilled water. Edit: the reason I bring this up is RO systems are cost effective. I do not have distillation equipment and wouldn't buy it. I just speaking...

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits (FWK) Not Clearing - Need Ideas!

Get an RO unit off amazon. They are not expensive, easy to install and will remove all minerals. I love mine. Water tastes great and is perfect for winemaking.

Does bentonite strip color as well?

Other FWK Bordeaux - High PH - Need Input from Experienced Wine Makers

I've stressed about SO2 in the past but from advice I received on this forum- 1/4 tsp of kmeta every 3 months during bulk aging. 1/4 heaping tsp if racking (air exposure). Until I make a spoiled a wine, this will be my go by. AFAIK, following this is being conservative anyway. More is...

Finer Wine Kit Finer Wine Kits (FWK) Not Clearing - Need Ideas!

Just out of curiosity, did you use tap water to make these wines or filtered water? For what it's worth, I've been using an AIO wine pump with 5 micron filter without issue. It speeds up the racking process significantly. I like that the vaccum it pulls helps to degass the wine. I would...

Finer Wine Kit FWK Petite Sarah

I recently bottled the Forte PS and I'm very happy with how it turned out. It's only 10 months young but tastes fantastic. It should continue to improve. I think you will be happy. Btw, it only started to taste decent around 7 months. Prior to that I was a little worried it was going to...

    HELP! Need venison recipes!!!

I love making italian roast beef on my smoker using rotisserie. I just use a lean beef roast, season well and cook/smoke over a pan of water. I cook to medium rare and slice against the grain super thin with my meat slicer. I serve on garlic buttered and toasted hoggie rolls with melted...

    HELP! Need venison recipes!!!

I've killed deer with head shots and ones that ran a bit. Never noticed a difference in taste but maybe I wasn't paying attention. To me, deer isn't horrible tasting if seasoned correctly. For me it's more about how chewy the meat is. Doesn't matter if the flavor is right, if it chews like a...

    HELP! Need venison recipes!!!

We also make breakfast sausage (grind/mix with trimmed pork butt). Sausage is versatile for everything from breakfast to dinner. Make patties or scramble loose for various recipes. You can buy a cheap grinder and seasoning mix on Amazon and make your own. I prefer to make everything myself...

    Chlorinated Water to Clean/Prep Barrel

Do you ever store your barrels with a holding solution or always with a wine? If a holding solution, do you have any experience on how long you can leave the solution before you need to completely change it out with new solution?

    HELP! Need venison recipes!!!

Also, the key to my recipe is cutting the meat into small pieces. It allows the meat to take on the flavors of the ingredients and also makes sure that it ends up as tender as possible. Good cuts or bad- end result is the same. It probably sounds like I'm bragging but it really is a game...

    HELP! Need venison recipes!!!

This is my all time favorite recipe for venison. I dreamt this up a while back and it's never failed to impress. I've also made it with beef roast but oddly enough, it doesn't come out as good as venison. My kids love it as well. Honestly I didn't like venison unless it was a backstrap...

    Non-foaming Star San?

Does saniclean require rinsing or not? I keep seeing mixed answers to this question online.

    Non-foaming Star San?

How do you like sani clean compared to Star San? Would it still foam up a lot if agitated like if ran through a bottle washer?

    Non-foaming Star San?

Yeah, I have probably 5 yrs worth of star san but HATE the foam. I know it's nothing to worry about but it still bugs me for some reason. Plus it's impossible to use with my bottle washer and vacuum pump. The stuff is cheap enough I don't mind trying something new. I clean everything well...
