How much extra to make 1 gallon?

It depends on the fruit. For mango I wound start with two maybe two and a half to start with. It produces a HUGE amount of lees.

    Stubborn pear wine won't clear

I made a peaf wine one time that took two triple doses of pectic enzyme after fermentation to clear. Like you we had added pectic enzyme prior to fermentation. It is a cheap thing to try.

    Gunk in airlock...now what?

I don't think you have done any permanent damage. I would pull out about a cup of your wine, add 1/4 tsp of kmeta (and maybe 1/2 tsp) to the cup, add back to your wine and stir it in gently. No need for drill stirring. It's all good.

    What's for Dinner?

Almost looks like St. Louis style cracker crust. Just need to cover that with provelle cheese.

Post a Meme, any Meme! (no politics)

I don't play the fake name game. When I have to go in, which is maybe once every four or five years it's "I would like your largest cup of darkest coffee, filled to the brim." That gets the looks of disdain.

Marijuana surpasses alcohol in daily use for Americans, study finds

I wonder how many folks fit into both categories? I don't, MaryJane never did much for me. And I'm well above that drinking for to five days in the month. More like 33 days in the month.

    What R you doing today?

Two week check up after knee surgery. This is my new knee. The bone is supposed to eventually grow up into and around the metal. Walking with just a cane, but oh so slow.

    Chemical taste to wine

There are at least two possibilities I can think of right away. There are probably 55 really, but these generally are good starts. 1) Not letting the wine take some time to develop. As in not aging it long enough. What kind of timelines are you following. Kit instructions generally are 4-8...

    What's for Dinner?

The one I bought secretly years ago from Cookshack keeps the temp at what I set it within 2 or 3 degrees of set point. That's measured by it and also by a temp probe at the outlet. Does a fine job. Not inexpensive

    What R you doing today?

Today, I am sitting around not doing much, except for exercising on a bike about 5 times a day. Yesterday, I had my right knee replaced. Interestingly, that is now an outpatient procedure. Into the surgery center at 830 out heading for home at 2. Absolutely amazing to me. My ex-wife had one done...

    What's for Dinner?

An item I have considered, might buy at some time, in the future, they might only be sold at Bass Pro/Cabela's is a propane grill with one side being the griddle the other a conventional grill. They look interesting, seen to have good reviews. I'm not in the market for anything, right now.

    Advice on Strawberry Wine

Strawberries - prepare for a somewhat higher than expected level of loss due to lees during primary fermentation. When I have made strawberries in the past, I have often started with 1.5 gallons (scaling everything appropriately) or 2 gallons. There is that much loss on the first racking. On...
