    A Good Score?

Yes, I thought of that as well, a gas blanket isn't really that expensive to do, and I have a small C02 bottle for my mig welder at home anyway......

    A Good Score?

Hi Wade! well, I filled it up and it took very close to 50 litres (49 7/8 +-) to fill it to the top, before it slopped over....it isn't a demi john, it looks like a carboy on steroids, same profile only slightly taller, bigger around. So since most kits I've looked at make 23 litres, it will...

    A Good Score?

Well, I do have a nice little filter pump that I just used to bottle my first ever batch, and it works great.....so I will probably filter into it and let it sit in place for aging. I'm thinking I'll put it in a cut down garbage pail with heavy rope handles on it for moving it around if needed...

    A Good Score?

Hi all, I just got back from a family gathering, stayed at my Dad's place for a couple of days. He is past 70 now, and decided he would rather drink the wine I make then make his own anymore, so he passed on a little item to me....a large, heavy clear glass carboy! It is marked on the bottom as...

    Question Re: Older wine kits

So, a little update on the old wine kit situation: When the gentleman I got the gear and kits from heard that the kits were all old, he was suprised and apologetic....I never did find any dates on them, but he reiterated that they were all purchased about a year ago, and offered to refund me...

    Howdy!

Just as soon as I start sinning, I'll give you all the juicy details!:h Its gonna take a little while to work up to some really good sins, but I'm going to be determined about it........

    Question Re: Older wine kits

I'm gonna learn so much on this forum.....!:D

    Question Re: Older wine kits

Oh well, might as well get the tough luck out of the way up front, and get on with making some wine to ease the pain....!

    Question Re: Older wine kits

Thanks for taking the time for me Steve, I appreciate it. I'm sure we'll get to know one another thru this forum, and I look forward to your input...always nice to have a mentor when you take on something new. TC

    Question Re: Older wine kits

One of my neighbors makes wine as well, he gave us a bottle of aforementioned Amarone to try...in fairness, it wasn't aged very long at all (6 months? maybe?), and like yourself, I was not a big fan. I've enjoyed my Australian Shiraz, and Chilean (*or Argentinean?) Malbecs, might look for...

    Question Re: Older wine kits

I like a variety of wines, primarily drink reds but like a white on occasion....I try different ones regularily, and would be lying if I said I had developed a discerning palate...(now if we were talking single malt whisky, I'm a bit more informed :D)...... As to what is readily available...

    Question Re: Older wine kits

Thanks for the replies.... Yes, the Cab/Merlot is from Costco, and I sort of expected it not to be premium (you generally do get what you pay for).....but I figured since I was just starting, no point in getting something more expensive to screw up while I was learning!:D I figure it will be...

    Question Re: Older wine kits

Hi all, I'm brand new to this racket, but it is a family tradition so I'm into it....I bought a startup kit, and wine kit at Costco three weeks ago, and my first two batches are doing great....no problems there. Figured if I was going to screw up the first couple of batches, I'd use some cheap...

    Howdy!

Well, I have finally followed in the family tradition of making my own wine......thought I'd drop in and learn from those who have already made the mistakes that I'd prefer to avoid!:h Looking forward to picking your brains, and getting to know you. I'm from northern Alberta BTW, also take time...
