    Fertilizing established grapes.

I second what @srcorndog said and would that they can give you fertilizer and amendments recommendations based upon what type of grapes you are growing, target yield, climate etc.

    Soil ph in Minnesota

I think sulfur is the option. Keep in mind hybrid grapes do best in 6 to 6.2 range but it may take a few applications to reach that optimal number. If you have a local extension service they can do the calculation for you as to how much to add and whether to split between fall/spring etc.

Necessity of hilling up for winter

These are grafted cab franc, not own rooted. I figure it might be wise to at a minimum cover the graft unions for the winter and likely that is what I will do. I was out visiting a few cab franc plantings west of me in the Hudson Valley of NY this past weekend, and one vineyard had gone through...

Necessity of hilling up for winter

I am planning a little expansion into some Cab Franc this coming year. I will be adding 50 vines of clone 1 to my hobby vineyard. I have a nice site with a sandy soil here in the CT river valley. I am in zone 6B on the new USDA zones. I am wondering if it is worth the effort to hill these up for...

    Backyard Vineyard - Year two

Adding to @wood1954 's list, get some Howler fungicide and put a few sprays in your rotation. I have had positive results from adding it to my program and it is cheap enough and labeled for lots of other crops too.

    New Maryland Vineyard

Looking very nice. You're probably going to miss a few here or there and it shouldn't matter too much.

Help with spraying with new gas powered backpack sprayer

I think sprayer calibration be helpful to you. You want to be sure you not only have the right amount of product in the right amount of water but also that that mix is covering the right amount of area. The manual here...

    Reviving Idle Vineyard

Thanks for the ideas. I will do a soil test this fall as my state experiment station does them free. I don't normally do much by way of amendments usually anyway but it's probably good to check. I didn't see any disease but I will be sure to clean up the left behind clusters.

    Reviving Idle Vineyard

So this season, due to health issues that are now generally resolved, I was not able to do much in the way of vineyard management on my hobby vines. They were pruned in the spring, but they did not have much care beyond that and sat idle. The vines have been in for 9 seasons. I am trying to get...

    The Bread Thread

Cold weather is here, and bread season has returned. This rye is the first of many to be baked (and eaten) this winter.

    Good Morning 2021 Growing Season

I do something basically like this for my Marquette vines. They tend to always be a week or better earlier than the rest of the vineyard to break and therefore more likely to get a late frost hit. Leaving extra buds at least gets me shot in those years. Neat to see the video and thanks for...

Lawn treatment damage to young grapevines

I would definitely apply your systemics as you usually would in rotation by FRAC number- manzate, forum, quadris, etc. whatever use spray normally. There are well documented plant health benefits to all these products. I am not organic but if you are using Coppers and Sulfurs they are...

Lawn treatment damage to young grapevines

Agree that you have herbicide damage. I would apply your fungicides as you normally would. Even on healthy vines, fungicides will not stress plants but only boost overall plant health, particularly systemic fungicides.

    Lydia’s Vineyard (CT)

@Wineisgud I undrstand why you chose the grow tubes with the wildlife issue. I believe they will get you some protection there. From commercial growers I have chatted with in the area that use tubes, they just let them grow in the tube without doing to much to them, but they get the tube off by...

    Lydia’s Vineyard (CT)

I wouldn’t prune newly planted vines this season. Get all the growth you can this year. You want to build your roots up. Get the grow tubes off by Labor Day so they have time to acclimate to the cooler weather before frost. For what it’s worth, I never bother with grow tubes and they turn out...

French bread sourdough for a dinner side tonight. It’s finally nice enough here in New England that I will be charcoal grilling for the first time in about an hour!

    Lydia’s Vineyard (CT)

Pyganic will do a great job for you on all beetles and it’s all I have used the past few years due to the residual action. Carbyryl will give a quick kill down but no residual protection. My experience is that fungicide application is more important in our area. Things to think about when...

    Lydia’s Vineyard (CT)

Looks like a nice layout. I have Marquette too but TWC and it does well for me. I had too much winter kill in cab franc and have replaced those with Arandell. Best of luck with the new vineyard this season.
