This is good info. Thanks. It's hard to want to use any chemical on plants producing something I may use to make wine, but if it gets degraded quickly, that's a plus... It's also hard to watch my plants literally being completely eaten by a swarm of little bugs...

Thanks Mr. Guy. No these are not Japanese beetles. They are most definitely flea beetles. They are only about 4-5 mm long, hop and fly when disturbed, and look exactly like the picture in the URL I posted. We sprayed isopropyl alcohol, water and soap tonight which was recommended by a few...

Thanks for your reply Joni! Actually, I did a Google Lens search and found that my bug is the Apple Flea Beetle: https://wiki.bugwood.org/HPIPM:Apple_Flea_Beetle Seems there are lots of ways to control them... I'm going to try the alcohol-water-soap spray, and if that doesn't work then try...

Thanks for all of your replies. I made the new plantings this spring with blue protection tubes. Many of the New Vines are now growing out the tops of the tubes which are at about 36 in from the ground. When do I remove these tubes? My inclination is to leave them until the vine can be tied to...

There are 4 very old Chardonnay, about 30 own-root Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 new Chamboursin grafted on 1103p rootstock, and 30 new Errante Noir on 1103p rootstock. The new vines were planted March 31st, arguably a little early, but I used blue shelter tubes and we have 90 pct of them growing...

New (old) home with vineyard owner

New questions: The old vines have leaved out and, despite not great pruning in the past, there seem to be a good number of nascent clusters... Not all vines look great though and some only have growth from the ground with the trunk and cordons looking like unhealthy or dead wood. I was assured...

Thanks for the advice Chris. Already had that thought, and vineyard is mapped! Excited for the growing season! Need to see how healthy the old vines are. They were horribly managed over time and allowed to overgrow. I'm doing a lot of reading and will try to get the old plants pruned properly...

Yes, "watermelon slice!" The mountains here in Albuquerque (of which Corrales is a suburb) I called the Sandia mountains. Ironically, I absolutely hate watermelon. But I've ran with that as a username for various places online. Thank you for the information in regards to my question about the...

Thanks Chuck. I'll look into my options for a lift or dumb waiter. Maybe a pump and line system... Sean
