Through history, April 15th has been a bad day...

Lincoln Dies (1865),
The Titanic sank (1912)
The Boston Bombing (2013)

The pollen here in NJ is kicking into full gear. To top things off, taxes are due today (do not get me started on government spending!).

.. And I have not had a drop of wine (or any alcohol for that matter) for 40 days!!!!

Sorry to be a little down, just chalk it up to the "4/15 blues".

And,speaking of disasters, let's not forget US tax day.

I think our forefathers would be spinning in thier graves to see what Justice, domestic tranquility, general welfare, Liberty and providing for the common defense have become in our day and age. I am sure they wouldn't be looking at our decisions as being wise...

I don't share your surety. Their little experiment with creating a nation doesn't seem to have turned out so badly, IMHO. I understand your opinion could differ.

Not to get too political, but my history degree does not allow me to stay silent.
I dont like to judge anything "we" do against what a bunch of land-owning men did over 200+ years ago. Nor do I use them a barometer as to what is right and correct in this day and age!

The founding father's were wealthy, landowning white men, who excluded women and non landowners from the process of democracy (not to mention Indians, Africans and others)

But I believe that many of the founding father's would be spinning in their grave to see an African American as POTUS, considering many of the founding father's owned African's as property.

but I always think of the great quote from An American Preside:

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, 'You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.' You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."

We are an experiment in democracy and the longest running experiment in the world at that!
it is an adventure.
Enjoy the ride!

But this is just my opinion!

OK, Off the soap box, back to wine making.

Enjoy the rest of your 15th!

Well said Elmer!!!!

Our forefathers have been deified for 200 years. It is so easy for folks to not understand that they were men with self interest at heart.

I am not saying that the forefathers are not due their just respect. I am saying that these men were not exactly saints.

If Ben Franklin could see Las Vegas today, he would jump for joy.

And Thomas Jefferson, although not a "signer" certainly qualifies as a "forefather" would have loved this wine forum.

'In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is Freedom, in water there is bacteria.' - Ben Franklin

“By making this wine vine known to the public, I have rendered my country as great a service as if I had enabled it to pay back the national debt.” -T Jefferson

And I agree About Franklin. He loved the the women and night life of versailles, where was there from 1778 to 83.

If he were alive today he would be in Vegas making the Hangover seem like Sesame Street!
(leaving Las Vegas comes to mind)
