WhineMaker got me to thinking. Do those of you who add the extra sugar to up the alcohol in the fruit wine kits dissolve itin water? If so, is there any certain amount of water you would use to dissolve it in? Might come in handy if you want to know the exact starting SG. I know what I like so I just pour it in and then rack it into the secondary when it gets below the .998 SG. But I would be curious toknow how you experienced peeps do this!

I add the sugar to a smaller amount of water that is needed to add to the kit so that the sugar is dissolved. If it is not dissolved you may get a false sg reading and also make it harder for the yeast to feast on.

You should heat it or the sugar really wont dissolve properly, it may look like it is dissolved but if you left it alone some would settle out.

The kits always start out with a half gallon of hot water before adding the juice. This is when I usually add in five pounds of sugar.
