What is an acceptable storage and aging Temp? I live in South Florida so keeping things cool is a problem without buying a large wine cooler. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Drew

Welcome Skipper Jack!

Ideally you would want something in the 50's for long term aging, but few of us have caves available for use(or in your case even a basement-probably). Stable temperatures of the 60's to low 70's are acceptable. I stress stable. Avoid large temperature swings if possible. Find your coolest room, maybe a closet, and make that your storage. Dark is preferable to sunlight. Let us know what rooms you have available and common temps. Also do you have air-conditioning(as that helps)?

Again welcome to the forum.

Finding the room that is a problem no caves or basements in FLA I do have a closet but the way the A/C is setit ranges from 78 during the day when no one is home to 75 at night. Is that too much of a change?

That is acceptable. As appleman pointed out, stability is very important. If you can keep it at those temps, you should be just fine.

Im in fla too and 78 is my temperature. Not even close to the recomended temp but no problems yet

I'm feeling vibrations.......maybe it's the Hard Apple Cider from Happy Hour and the traditional bottle of Sparkling Apple Wine...it is Saturday night....right!

No NW, you are a day ahead. It's only Friday, but you can party anyway

I know it's Saturday...because Friday was Colonoscopy Day...and who could forget that?????

My surgeon was happy with our 1 year anniversary of the Cancer Surgery and Iam happy too....Life is Extremely GOOD!!!

Mine does well I keep the reds in the little higher degree rooms and
the whites in the cooler rooms. This ages them a little quicker and i
can pop open them sooner. So the opisite would be for long term.
but 4 rack do hold a few bottles. aprox 510 750 ml. and 3 hold
the 1.5 liters on top approx 40 of them. They are for partieeesssss.

I'm also in Florida. Always 78 here too. It's just too darn expensive to keep it cooler than that...especially during the summer. I've had no ill effects on any of the wine I've made yet storing at that temperature. I know it's not ideal, butthe big wine cooler is not in the budget.

Down the road I would like to get one, but for now...78 it is! Sounds like there are a few of us Winemakersin Florida. We may have to have a littleFlorida Wine Stock.

Way to Go, Northern!!!

Northern:

I, too, am a colon cancer survivor. I was diagnosed and underwent surgery 4 years ago. I just had a colonoscopy and had a few polyps, but they were all benign. I am a blessed man and, yes, life is good.Edited by: Smokegrub

I know I won't forget the last Colonoscopy I had a couple years ago. In and out of the outpatient procedure room to recovery. That's when things got interesting. My blood pressure kept dropping to zilch and they had to keep me for about 6-8 hours longer than anticipated. The doctor said everything was fine and he wouldn't repeat for another 10 years.

Super to hear things are going well!

you could also look at a cooler of some sort to regulate a 55-60 degree temp...There is also the possibility to make one room or closet in your house cool to keep it a stable temp all year round..You are definately in a tough spot without some sort of cooler to store your babies in...
