Hello. I am new to Wine Making. Glad to be here. I purchased an Estate Washington Reisling and am in the process of fermenting it. I am through stage one.

My cat has decided he should become part of the brewing process. I understand what that means. nothing good...

He decided that he should tear into the secondary bag that came with the kit. The Susse-Reserve...

My question is this...

What is this secondary bag?

Is it Grape concentrate?I guess I don't understand what this additive is.If it is a grape concentrate, my cat is at risk... Just trying to figure this out...

Yeh, I am that guy...

They are usually mostly inverted sugar with maybe just some flavoring. I cant see where your cat would be at risk. It may have a little flavoring (concentrate) but mostly its just there to sweeten your wine.

I have not made this particular kit but I just finished a Cellar Craft Riesling that also came with a Flavor Reserve bottle. The contents are clearly lined out on the Box the kit came in and the first and foremost ingredient listed is indeed concentrated grape juice (for the flavor reserve bottle) so if your cat has a severe allergy to grape juice you should keep a close eye on him.

That said and from one Chemist to another, welcome to the FVW forums!

Hope things go better after this little hiccup!

Jasn:

I have not made the WE Esatate Wash Riesling; however I would expect it to be a Suss Reserve kit made from wine juice & concentrate. Have you looked on the box to see if their is a specific ingredients list for it?

Best thing would be to give Winexpert a call. I am sure they will provide you with all the info you need.

If a cat, mine or others, got into my grape juice I expect he'd have a reaction to lead long before the grapes got him.
