After realizing that I like Shiraz and Italian Barolo, I'm reading about Amarone. I can appreciate the labor and risk involved in making Amarone wine. I see it is also expensive. That said, the kits don't look so expensive. Anybody make any to speak about? I wanna try. Any preference on name brand to use?

I have an Amarone underway now, in the clearing stage. It's the Spagnols Cellar Classic Winery Series kit and looks very promising but won't really know for a year or 2 or 3. I hear the Spagnols En Primeur kit is a winner but have no personal experience with it. I would think any of the ultra premium kit Amarones would be good.

I have Spagnols EP Amarone just bottled and sampling at bottling was great. This kit uses both skins and raisins. Early but I expect this one to be wonderful.

The Cellar craft Showcase Amarone seems pretty popular on the boards and in winning awards. I have a Winexpert amarone with skins that really looks promising. I have a Mosti Modiale Renaissance Amarone which is one year old that is still pretty tart. I hear this one is pretty good at about two years.

I bottled a Wine Kitz Sommelier Amarone 18L in Feb 2011, I have about 18 bottles left and gonna let those sit til Xmas (about 2 years) before I really get into them. Last time I had one was about 3 or 4 months ago and it was really good, but I could tell the flavours still haven't opened up yet. I have high hopes for this one

I make one or two Amarone kits per year. Won two silver metals this year. Both were Mosti Mondaile Meglioli kits. One won in Pittsburgh and just today learned that the other won silver at Indi. Amarone is rich and delicious. Many people are not familiar with it because commercial decent Amarone starts at about $50.00 per bottle. In restaurants I doubt you'll find even a poor one for less than $80.00. So when folks try a kit Amarone they are often pleasantly surprised. Do one that is at least 16ltr and has raisins or grape pack.

Tony, Are the Meglioli kits Mosti Modiale's Limited Editions? Do they change every year like CC, WE, RJS do? I think I'm interested in doing a Meglioli Amarone kit if it is offered again.

They seem to offer an Amarone every year. They do take two or more years to be drinkable. And are terribly expensive.

I have done 30 kits in the last two years and have built up a nice cellar. My plan now is to drop back to a kit or two below consumption which is about 8 kits per year and do really high end kits that I am willing to wait for. A Meglioli kit comes out to about $8 a bottle? I willing to spend that and take the time to wait for it for a very good amarone. Did you send your Meglioli Amarone through your barrel or oaked in some other way?

After sifting through much info and hearing what y'all have to say, I'm leaning toward an MM Ren. Impressions. 16 liters, 5 on body, and an all grape , not dry skins. Unless somebody throws me off course, I'm pulling the trigger Monday.

The Renaissance kits from Mosti are my favorite especially the Sicilian Roso d Avola. I highly recommend it if you like Italian wines.

Hey Tony. I'm learning what I like. I seem go like heavy, strong reds with lots of body and flavor. That way I don't mind the dryness. Never heard of what you mentioned. I'll check.

George is reccomending the MM Masters Amarone. Says its juice is true Italian. Any opinions?

One thing to consider is not everyone, who likes reds or even everyone, who likes Italian wines, likes Amarone. This wine tends to be a little bitter or tangy.

You may really love this wine. If I were you, I'd try to get a taste of a representative Amarone before I make one.

If you are going to make one, make the best, ultra-premium kit you can get. It takes some extra time for this wine to come around, so you want it to be worth the longer wait.

George knows wine and his products very well, so I would go with his advice.

Not yet Tony. Been super busy with work (cabinets/furniture). Looks like tomorrow, and the MMM Amarone.

I did it. Got the MMM Amarone kit coming this way next week. Woohoo!
