Just got done fermenting a batch of backyard grape. Some off my catawba vine, some from a friends vine of some kind and another from the neighbors unknown vine. Fermented down rather quickly but had the fermenter upstairs so it took advantage of the warm air. Done fermenting and decided to make a batch of s.p. on the lees. Dumped the leees and a small bit of liquid in a 10 gal. brute. Added some lemon, energizer, nutrient, water and a bunch of sugar. Actually used warm water but the basement was pretty cold, down in the 50's. Next morning the towel between the fermenter and its lid was covered in color, it had fizzed up and hit the towel. Cleaned it up and let it sit. Yesterday the darn thing made a mess of the new towel and overflowed out of the fermenter. Now it had 6 inches or so of headspace and the temps were low. Didn't hurt anything as it is on concrete, but never had one grow quite that much and especially with the cold temps. Oh well, nothing ventured nuthin gained. Should have a nice batch when it gets warm. Sit on the porch at the lake and sip lemonaid. LOL, Arne.
