Remember, I won the Happy Valley Homesteader Apple Press last year - so next project will be to make some apple cider. Anybody have some great recipes?

Just entered, I need a press!

Speaking of Apples, I had Friday off (yea Al it's tough working for the Government!

). We went to one of the best kept secrets in New Mexico only it's not a secret to the locals that's for sure.

Dixon's Apple's located about half way between Santa fe and Albuquerque and the only place in the world where you can get the "Champagne" apple. We got there about 12:30PM and the line to get into the orchard was about a mile long! I don't know of any other apple grower that doesn't have to ship their product anywhere. People come to them and they will sell out the entire inventory (50 acre orchard) by next week.

It took us 2.5 hours to get apples but soooo worth it. The Champagne is like a Golden Delicious with a tinge of red in places. Crisp and sweet as can be thanks to the cool nights and warm days in September. We brought back 2 bushels and 2 gallons of fresh Cider. Going to make some Apple pie (of course) give some to friends, eat a lot and freeze some for making pies this Winter as well.

Here are a few pics of the place. Most people (like us) use one of the complementary wheel barrows in order to get their stash back to the car.

That is all very interesting. But I do love that Farmall "C" tractor.!!!

Forgot to say I will have a slice heated with a nice piece of Cheddar on top! Those look pretty darn good especially this AM!
