I hope this isn't a stupid question, I searched around the forum and have not found anything. The guy at the local homebrew store which is where I have gotten my whole setup said I should put in some campden tablets before I bottle it.

Should I, and if so, how many tablets should I put in a three gallon carboy?

Other than knowing that, I thing I am ready to bottle my mead, the fermentation is finished, it has been bulk aging for about 5 months and I have degassed it and everything. Is it ready to bottle, or am I missing something?

This is my first 'real' wine as the only other one I did was in gallon plastic jugs with balloons and welches concentrate, and I don't want to mess it up.

One tablet is more than enough for your 3 gallon batch. Just make sure that it is fully dissolved before you bottle.

Before you bottle, you may want to consider fining (clarifying) your mead. If you have any residual sugars, you may also want to consider adding a dose of sorbate.
