The tester instructions for calibration require soaking the electrode in the two calibrating solutions and adjusting the two screws, OK I can do that. Instructions also say to re-calibrate every so often? How often? Can I keep the two solutions in a small air tight container for future calibrations? Thanks. bk

I dont know about that as you are most likely transferring some of one solution over to the other while doing this.

Rinse the electrode with disstilled water after use and keep the tip submerged in either disstilled water of Ph 7.0 Buffer Solution.

Bud I would have to look but I believe they recommended NOT soaking in distilled water. Could be mistaken, I'll have to look later. I do soak mine in 4.01 solution.

I recalibrate mine once per month or after I have done quite a bit of testing. I always rinse off, blow on the electrodes to clear any water out then dry it. Once that is done it's back into the cap with 4.01 solution.

Steve, I always rinse mine off with D. Water then store in storage solution. Why do you bother drying it off first?
I also get a lot of salt like crystals on the ph meter when storing it. I do keep it upright during storage. Will storing it in 4.1 instead of the storage solution prevent that?

I blow and dry it off so there is little if any water left. This way I will have 99% 4.01 solution on it. I have never had crystals on mine, the distilled water may be doing that.

I need to read those 3 point type directions again.

I just read the directions from Hanna. DO NOT USE DISTILLED OR DENATURED WATER. Always store with the proper solution 4.01

It also is wirth mentioning NEVER to touch the bulb as it is highly sensitive to static electricity.

Ok We talked about the 4.01 solution last week so I tried it and just checked. No crystals. I wonder why they sell the storage solution if they recommed otherwise and it causes the crystals. Incidently I did still rinse in distilled water but will change that practice going forward.

After reading the instructions again (and again)turns out they have a storage solution for just $12.95 a bottle, I wish he would have suggested it, or is 4.01 the same stuff?

On another note, Midwest has some fancy Hydrometers for sale, are all Hydrometers the same? bk

Read post #5 & #8.

No all hydrometers are not the same. Different ones can read higher or lower ranges. Just get the standard one for wine.
