I saw the RJ Spagnols Cru Select Platinum Amarone on sale for $100. It is a 16 liter kit, but alas it has no grape pack:( Has anyone made this kit, is an amarone without a grape pack worth $100? Any guidance you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated :try

The RJS WS Amarone with grape skin pack sells for $125.00 at my LHBS. I personally would have a hard time choosing between the two but suspect I'd pay the extra $25.00 and get the WS kit with grape skins. I do hope someone familiar with both kits answers your post.

A few years ago, the Cru Select Amarone came with a pound of SunMaid raisins. It was the first Amarone I had ever made and it started an annual tradition of making Amarone for Christmas. In fact, I tried to recreate that taste a couple years ago when I made the MM Renaissance Amarone but failed. Maybe my tastes have changed. Now, I prefer the CC Showcase Amarone or the EP Amarone and I am sure I would like the Winery Series Amarone, since I have loved everything else I have made in that line.

The Cru Select kit no longer comes with raisins (easily fixed) but it would make a very good wine. I believe there are better amarones but I would guess this could be closer to a Valpolicella Ripassa than an Amarone. Decide whether an additional 83 cents a bottle is worth it for your taste. For me, the answer is YES.

For me, wouldn't be an option, always would pay the 25 bucks more, or really the 40 bucks more for En Primeur kit. 3 years running on the EP kit, and never disappointed.

I have this kit aging in my Hungarian Oak barrel as we speak and it is turning out wonderful.
