To make a long story short, my wife threw some magnets with axel grease in the receiving bin of my (painted) crusher/de-stemmer. Not I have a huge scratch and I lot of grease to get rid of. Not sure if lemon juice is a strong enough degreaser for that or if there's something else I can use. And what can I use for the scratch? Do I even need to worry about it.
Thanks

Can you wipe off all the grease or as much as possible with a paper towel etc? Use minimal amount of something that removes grease on another paper towel (Fantastic should work) Clean the bin with some Starsan or Oxyclean, rinse well. If the scratches are small I would leave them as the grapes are whole in the bin and only in there for a min or two at most. Then keep SWMBO away from the Crusher!

Thanks Mike,
Yeah, the Grease just smears so I wasn't sure if I could use a chemical degreaser or not.

I would use a good dish detergent to remove the grease. If there is a lot of grease maybe start with the orange degreaser made from natural oranges. Then wash well with soap and water. That should take care of it. Acid will not remove grease.

wipe off the grease then wash with Dawn dishwashing soap. it will cut the grease. I would re-paint using food grade paint.

My gosh, please everyone, do my thinking for me :slp dawn? For dishes? Who would have thought that would work :slp

Thanks for setting me straight :)

Yup,

Use Dawn and do not worry about scratches so much. It will get scratched sooner or later anyway.

Also, do not forget to apply the appropriate amount of guilt to your Wife.

After 32 years of marriage I've learned which battles to pick and understanding I've just spent $800 on equipment. I just told her it was was a bit of a disappointment to find the crusher that way as food DID go in there, and left it at that.

After being married for far more years than that (can't for the life of me remember that far back) I can tell you sometimes it is better to surrender, cause the war is probably lost anyway. LOL, Arne.
