I was just wondering if it is needed to de-gas a wine that has naturaly cleared. I made a batch of Pineapple wine and it cleared very nicely on its own so I didn't add any clearing agents. I don't know if I should de-gas before I bottle.....Thanks

If this is a gallon batch, sanitize one palm and hold it over the top
of the bottle and shake a little. If it gives a puff when let go, then
you need to degas. If this is a bigger batch then sanitize a wine
bottle and pour some in there and try that trick! Goods luck!

DrDave,

I degass every wine I make just to make certain that I won't have any bubbly. Wade has a good technique for a gallon batch. If you are making 5 or 6 gallons, I'd recommend a Fizz-X (item 15262from George)for that quantity. You use a drill to beat the gases out of the wine. If you use the Fizz-X don't forget to remove a quart or so from the carboy to prevent a wine valcano. Trust me, it will erupt!

Yes...THE LAW OF DISPLACEMENT..
I learned that too....I added the packages of Super-Kleer KC to a full carboy....that went in okay...then I took the handle part of a 24" stirring spoon and put it in the carboy to stir it up....Geee!!! THE LAW OF DISPLACEMENT....So, now I take some wine out of the carboy before I do that, then once it is stirred pour the wine back in....those handles take up a lot of volume.....LIVE AND LEARN

NW: I had to laugh when I read your post........

I have done this 100 times now, and I STILL do it! I can't seem to ever remember to take some wine out before inserting that spoon, racking cane, autosiphone or just a plain hose...... and everytime it overflows.......

I'll never learn.............Edited by: jobe05
