Hello all! I'm a new winemaker from Johnstown, PA about an hour and a half east of Pittsburgh. My boyfriend and I started our wine making adventure by assisting his father, who lives in Pittsburgh (McDonald), with his home winemaking kits. We were hooked pretty quickly and this past Christmas we received our first wine making equipment kit.

Since Christmas, we have finished a Riesling Ice Wine Kit and an Apple Pomegranate Rose kit, and have now started a Coffee Port kit. We have also decided to start branching out and have just started our first Dragons Blood.

I've been enjoying reading these forums for a couple weeks now and have been gleaning information from all of the wonderful posts. I figured I should introduce myself as you'll probably see me start posting soon when (inevitably) something will not go as expected!

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Deanna

Welcome, Deanna. Many of us are making the coffee port. It looks like it will be a really good one.
My wife loves ice wines. Last year I made the Winexpert Peach Ice Wine but they did not offer it again this year. I am looking to make another ice wine. Is that Riesling ice wine a Winexpert kit? Let us know what you think of it.

Hi Deanna,

Welcome to winemakingtalk and don't listen to what Runningwolf tells you, he will run you astray :)

I heard that, :ftand you need to admit, you are willing to try anyting at least once!

Hi Deanna, welcome to WMT. Great bunch of people on this forum, always willing to help. Let us know how the Reisling Ice Wine is. I just ordered one. Bakervinyard

You all seem like a really great group, I'm really glad to be a part of it!

The Riesling Ice Wine we made is the Winexpert kit. We really like the taste of it, but it was a bear to clear. Might have been user error though as I think we may have tried to get too much out of our primary when we racked it. We might have pulled extra sediment into the carboy. Not sure though. I'll be interested to see how you all fare.

We also helped my boyfriend's Dad make the Peach Ice Wine. It was delicious and we were sad not to see it available this year. Our friends were always begging for more of it, so we went through it pretty quickly!

Hi Deanna and welcome to WMT. It's nice to see someone else from PA besides myself.

Nice to see you, too! I'm happy to see some fellow PA people. Looks like you are up near Erie? We've come up there fairly frequently to run around all the different wineries up there. I'm a fan of the sweet wines, so I've found a lot to love in Northeast.

Yes that's where I work. I live about 45 minutes away from there. There certainly a large variety of wineries up here and I have two different friends also each opening wineries this year.

deanna,

Hi from Harrison City, PA. When you come to pittsburgh on 22 and get to the intersection of 22 and 66, you're in my neck of the woods. Let me know if you need help as I was where you are two years ago. Our western PA group gets together often for trading wines and socializing (you can pick up some REALLY good info as well as some GREAT wines). We can show you where to get some inexpensive new bottles (Kelman bottles on Route 8) and good juices. We look forward to meeting you and sharing a glass or two.

Wow, that's great! Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully I can get to come to some of your get togethers out that way, it sounds like a blast! Thanks again!

That's wonderful! Any idea when they are opening up? I'll have to make sure to check them out.
