I failed to pour the bentonite in with warm water. Should I do it again with warm water and make sure it dissolves appropriately or not?:ft

More info required. First, which kit? I'm guessing one of the Winexpert kits since that is the vendor that you picked.

Second, what have you actually done so far?

I have only added water and bentonite to the winexpert coastal white. I am about to add raisins, oak and yeast. I could not add the yeast yesterday when I added bentonite because the temp was too low. I am thinking I will go ahead and add the raisins, oak and yeast and wait for your suggestions. Thanks for you help.

I added yeast, raisins and oak this afternoon. I stirred it and it seemed to turn "muddy" and there was no evidence of sticky mud in the bottom of the bucket so I guess I am good to go.

OOPS, as soon as I posted this, I saw your next reply. I'll leave it here in case somebody else has the same issue and stumbles across this thread.

You have topped up to the 23 litre (6 US gal) mark, so you do not want to get more bentonite from somewhere, mix it in a half gallon of warm water, and add it to the must.

First stir vigourously. GO CRAZY. Get that vortex action going. Use your drill and stirrer (if you have one), Get that bentonite mixed in well with the must. Take out all of your frustrations on this poor wine kit.

Feel better now? Oh sorry, your arm and shoulder are sore from stirring. Don't worry you can have a beer soon.

Now add the raisins and oak. Stir them in as much as possible. Take a hydrometer reading, if you haven't already. Now sprinkle the yeast on top of the must, and close up your primary.

Everything should be just fine.

Now you can have that beer. I hope it's a good one.
