that when you have your hydrometer in your wine for a reading, it always rotates so that the scale you are trying to read is in the back? How does it know which scale I am trying to read?!

that when you have your hydrometer in your wine for a reading, it always rotates so that the scale you are trying to read is in the back? How does it know which scale I am trying to read?!
That is so-o-o-o-o frustrating! It happens each and every time. I can even pick up the hydrometer test tube and turn it to read the other side; you'll never guess what happens next. I am not lying!

Rocky they are designed that way. It's best to give it a good spin and by the time it's done bouncing up and down it's slowing down to catch a reading.

Bob, now there is an idea! I will just say (so the hydrometer can hear), "Well, I better check my degrees Brix," and then when it rotates away from that scale, I will be able to read the SG scale. Brilliant!
just put it on a tall, small table and then just walk around the table plus your getting some exercise as well
I like this table idea. The hydrometer's gotta' stop rotating sometime!

Yea, just remember what Tom always says... patience, the last thing you want to do is start walking around the table before it stops, now your dizzy and fall down, knoch the table over and break the hydrometer!

Yep, that's why I always keep two hydromete3rs on hand!

This is know as Shy Hydrometer in the Must Syndrome or SHITMS. Over time it will get over it. Be patient.
