I checked my vines today, what a surprise. The first picking of muscadines of 2010 (Isons). There are not many ripe yet, but they are turning. I might have enough for a 1 or 2 gal. batch this year, if the birds don't get all of them.

String you a piece of fishing line over the top of them and hang some foil pie pans on it and that will help deter them
 
For some reason I do not have a problem with birds in mine. Coons, on the other hand, are an entirely different problem. Caught 12 this year in my vines. They are now part of smoked coon gumbo.

BTW what's the loneliest place in Louisiana? Bayou Self.
