Just called Presque Isle Wine Cellars and placed my order for 12 gallons each of Fredonia, Concord, Niagra and Seyval Blanc. They initially had a 30 gallon min to pre-order but recently reduced to 10. I'm in on that....

See you Sunday Dan..

Just saw the Presque Isle 2014 Harvest Report (http://www.piwine.com/2014-harvest-report.html). About what I expected, though it seems hybrids got hit hard as well. I'd bet that it's the same from Ohio to the Finger Lakes. Some of my favorite wineries got hit hard.

We'll still be coming up in a few weeks for juice. I get the feeling that local producers need our business more than ever before, to make up for the horrible winter damage, the crop loss, and to pay for new vines.

We picked up 48 gallons of juice yesterday, I came home adjusted sugar to 21 brix in all of the 4 kinds of juice. A few days I should be able to have the house smell of fermentation. Love that smell.

It was good to see you yesterday Dan, See you again on October 21...

Yeast was pitched and yesterday after work we had fermentation. The cellar is chilling down nicely to allow for a slow fermentation. Its 41 here now and all the vents in the glass block windows are open. I'll check the temp later when I go down to stir.

I checked the juice this am. All SG's right around 1.020. I'm figuring around Wednesday or Thursday I'll be transferring to glass.

Took the Day trip to Walkers in NY. They still have a lot of varieties on the vine, and no Baco Noir left to sell, so we decided to test out the wines they make and give samples of before we decided (great idea, btw, they make them dry, so you can get a good idea of the final product). Surprisingly, the wife loved the Cayuga, so we got 6 gallons of that. Chancellor seemed the best choice for us, even though I was leaning Corot Noir before I tasted it (you can tell it's related to Noiret). So, got 6 gallons of Chancellor, and a gallon of cider to play with (it was fermenting in the carboy as we drove home, lol).

I transferred the 8 buckets I picked up so far to carboys, The Concord and Fredonia have an outstanding color this year compared to last year. Will be getting Cartawba and Vidal Blanc on the 19th...

I picked up the remaining fall juices yesterday. I have 12-Catawba, 6-Steuben, 6-Reisling, 6-Cherry and 6-Diamond. I think that should hold me over for a while...
