Oops, I misread and thought you said chokeberry. Your are correct: aronia berries and chokecherries are different. Chokeberry is another name for aronia berries.

They are both in the family Rosaceae but cherry are genus- prunus and choke berry is aronia. Not that closely related. It is a common error that people make.
