I'm doing my first paper chromatography for 3 wines. I followed the instructions but something is wrong. First my paper is now yellow with blue spots for the malic acid. I thought the paper was supposed to be blue w yellow spots ? The tartaric and lactic acid shows nothing even on the samples for tartaric and lactic. Any ideas on what went wrong?

Got a pic? The colors change as the paper dries. So if it is still wet, give it time.

Yes you are right. I just didn't leave it long enough. I woke up today. I still could not see the lactic but maybe I did not leave it in the solution long enough. I saw online this is the highest one. I took it out after 4 hours.

The paper will stay yellow. The spot will appear in about 24 hours and get more prevalent for the next few days. Sunlight (UV) seems to help it develop faster.

You need to leave it in the developing tank at least 8 hours. I usually start mine just before going to bed and pull it out the next AM.
