Found: Giant Wood Wine Vat // Reposting to this forum as it seems more appropriate

Greetings. I recently bought a house in San Francisco and the gentleman that lived here before us left a 4ft high x 6ft across wine vat. It's completely open on top, seems liquid-tight, and has a small valve at the bottom. As you can see in the picture it's a large thing; he also left about a half dozen old barrels that we had to drop into the vat to retrofit for the house for earthquakes. Anyone seen anything like this?

Never seen one of these but it seems like it would be used for primary fermentation.

That thing is cool! I can see it now, in full-time use during Prohibition! That would make a lot of wine.
