Over the years I have amassed a blue million of these things and I use them all over the house for trash cans, dog food, lawn applications, etc. I just came up with a great one for my wine area (and I am sure I am not the first to do this) and that is to store my carboys (inverted) in them between usages. I have not altered the buckets but I could see drilling some weep holes in the bottom to let moisture escape when drying. The advantages that the buckets give me are: easy to move around with the bucket carrier, multiple drying locations, don't have to worry about setting them down gingerly on the floor and don't have to worry about banging them together when handling them. All sizes seem to fit except the short 6 gallon glass and the 6 gallon BBs.

I have a pretty small collection, but have them in multiple places already. A few in the winery, garage, etc. I was using one on Sunday to wash my car. Well, to hold the soapy water used to wash my car.

Coupled with a gamma seal lid they are great for grain storage if you brew. I also use them as fermenters. Drill a hole, slap in a gasket and airlock.

Bottling Bucket

I drilled a hole in the side of the juice pale that I got last year and attached a racking valve to it. Since adding that enhancement, the pale has served me well as my bottling bucket for the beers and wines I've made.:D
