I would just like to take this opportunity to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Canada on Monday. Have a great day and I hope the weather holds out for you. :thg:thg

Happy Thanksgiving

I will second that >>> Happy Thanksgiving neighbors :b

Thank you neighbors - weather will be sunny but cool here and the leaves are starting to look good.
Bon appetite tomorrow, fellow Canadians.

If my wines turn out as good as my turkey did, I'll be in heaven!!

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!!!!!!!! Enjoy your day and don't forget to drink at least one glass of wine :db

Julie - as mentioned in another post, I've been sampling tonight to see what to offer tomorrow!
CrazyCajun - wasn't it snowing out there last week!?

Thank you folks. Had a great weekend so far. yesterday was our annual turkey weekend skeet shoot and had the turkey today. I, of course, supplyed the wine. Every one loved it so pretty thankful for that. Tomorrow will travel home again. Gotta love those busy long weekends!

Does anybody know why Canada chose that specific date for Thanksgiving?

I know that the US Thanksgiving was chosen by Lincoln to give the troops a day off during the Cival War. Other than being the last Thursday in November, I do not believe that there is any historical significance about the date itself.

I just wonder if it is the same for our Canadian friends.

I have always thought it was to give thanks for harvests at this time of year, but as always, it's not that simple. It goes back to British history, was at one time part of Armistice Day and then given its own day of second Monday in Oct. to tie in with harvests, I guess. There's probably more to it but that's all I remember.
By the way, I thought your Thanksgiving was tied in to the arrival of the Pilgrims?

Nope. It is a common mis-conception.

The first thanksgiving in the USA was celebrated on November 28th 1861 as a result of a proclamation by Abraham Lincoln. The reason for the holiday was to give thanks to God for blessings and to prey for a speedy restoration of the union. (This was during the US Cival War).

I am not sure exactly when the association of pilgrims came into play, but it was much later in history.

we got snow a couple weeks ago, but not to the point of getting a white covered ground...but yeah it's coming soon and the cold too, getting ready for those -40/-50 C up here in Cold Lake! :)

Happy Turkey Day you Cnooks! Love al of y'as! Probably one of my favorite holidays cause we get to eat good food and dont have to fork out a $100,000,000 with the exception of Easter but my wife always cooks the traditional Ham for that which is OK but I like me some Turkey way better!

well I had a lot of thx to give out...if I add the empties the guest brought over and what was drunk, I'm now 2dz empty bottles richer!! :try

Geez Jeff, you guys must be drinkers! We had my 2 sisters and their hubbies over and we only emptied 5 bottles! Our kids are all living away so it's just us old folk and we can't drink like we used to.
Had a roast pork instead of turkey and it was delicious.
