Darn,

My valentine left town at 6 am. Her mom is in ICU after a knee replacement. She isn't tolerating the pain relief very well. For those of you that pray, please pray for her (my MIL).

Of course I do have two other valentines still at home.

I am in the same boat as you peter. My wife had to go to hartsfield today for business. So its just me and one of the boys. We will kick back and enjoy some sports of some kind. and a special prayer for you mil.

Will include your MIL in our prayers tonight Peter. For my sweetest I'm making ham hock soup with black beans in the crock pot for dinner tonight. We will sample Joes wine a2006 Raspberry wine also tonight. Tomy

Our 23rd wedding anniversary is February 22, so we will be combining both. There is a very nice restaurant close to where we held Winestock and we will celebrate both next weekend (less crowd to deal with!) Instead of paying an arm and a leg for a fair bottle of wine, I am going to buy a very nice bottle and pay the corking fee at the restaurant. Thinking about the $100.00 range. Any suggestions.

By the way, Happy Valentines Day to all.

George, Depending on what your meal is going to be.

I've had theSilver Oak Cabernetand is it not one that we can have but only special occasions and it was such a fantastic wine.

And just yesterday, Mr. Frazier, from Frazier Winery gave a signed bottle of his Cab to all the wine salesman at Spec's where Curtis works. So we are going to make that our Valentine's wine when we get a chance to celebrate. It is a 55.00 bottle and so was the Silver oak and I know they have more expensive bottles. I haven't had the priviledge of trying anything more expensive.

I know that our many informed winemakers and drinkers will have good ideas for you and Janna. I'm really anxious to try the Frazier.

Let us know what you decide on.......This is very interesting....Would love to seeyou two enjoying your evening....but then again..it's a special and private moment with your lady.

Have fun.....I'll be anxious to hear all about it.

Hapy valentines day everyone! Our 13 Anniversary is Feb 17th so like George we will be combining also with a night on the town. Stay clear from us as we dont get to go out much and we will be making the most of it. My Brother and Sister In-Law gave us a gift certificate for a restaurant nd offered to watch both kids for the night so theres trouble in town.

Another brutally cold day on the high plains...a high of -10*F.....
We shared our day with some friends....Jim and I had planned a day of shopping and general screwing off in Grand Forks ND....We kidnapped the two girls living across the road...[their guys have just been called back to work in Alaska and they are sitting alone at home alone]....I have been trying to take them to the store once a week and their mother in law takes them on the weekend....Plus they now have learner's driving permits...no cars or roads in their Alaskan Village....so we do trips around the neighborhood and towns.

Here are my beautiful Alaskan Upik neighbors...and baby...today on our shopping spree...

Jim had to take care of his passport and then we hit the thrift shops...dropped them at their favorite clothes store while we hit the boring stores...then we hit a Buffet...[all you care to stuff into your body place]...Then we hit Cabela's [a cool sporting goods store] They did a bunch of shopping there...Jim got a 3 burner cast iron gas stove for "The Campfire Café" [so he's a happy camper]...Then groceries and Wally World...I didn't get anything...But I had a wonderful day...shared with wonderful people....Now for some bubbly shared with my honey...

Ramona, I used to shop at Specs when I lived in Houston from '77 through '84!!

Peter,
Curtis works at the "mother ship" downtown. It is so huge and they have so much there to see, it is a tourist attraction here. And a fun place to work.

Ramona

Back when I lived in Houston, the mother ship was the only one.

Went to dinner and took a bottle of 1996 Chateau La Conseillante Pomerol. Here is a discription I found on the internet:

When poured in crystal, the wine was an intense, dark garnet. Despite its darkness, the disc (the surface) was very much alive, reflective; light danced off it. Against the light, it was a fairly bright ruby, fine clarity, though not as pure or brilliant as the 1994 Vieux-Chateau-Certan subject of my last review.

The nose. In my many, many years of enjoying wine, I have found few to be as fragrant, as alluring. Perfumed, not in the same way as a Lafite-Rothschild, not quite floral but perfumed with heady, sweet raspberry and oak. Reminiscent of the ’94 Certan but without the candied aspect of the fruit and more demure in displaying its bouquet.

In the mouth. It is very difficult to break down the evolution of flavors from attack to finish as the wine was seamlessly consistent: long clean sheets of red silk of raspberry, touches of red cherry and the slightest hint of sweet woodiness. Beautifully balanced, seductively rounded curves on its medium body. Unlike many Pomerols I have tried, plum did not play a major part in the wine’s performance. It was only in the medium-long finish that I noticed a slight separation of the otherwise seamless flavors: the touches of red cherry exited first, the whisper of sweet wood next fell silent as raspberry and red fruits lingered for a few moments more. Pure. So clean, so elegant.

We found it available on the internet from $135.00 to $199.99, but we paid $89.99 at our local liquor store. It was one of the best wines I have ever had.

A belated Happy Anniversary George.......So which kit do you have that would come closest to that one?
