Just thought I would throw up a quick intro, new to NWT and a complete noob to wine making. We bought a house last year and it came complete with a "Lab" room for brewing in the basement, the PO had been making his own for years.

I just picked up my first kit this week and will be setting things up this weekend. Have most everything on hand I need and am hoping to pump this kit and another out before spring, then maybe work towards some "Dragons Blood" in the summer once I get the basics down.

Seems like a great site, lots of info and great threads. Can't wait to get to work. :dg

  • Welcome Ian, Wish my house came with a lab! You came to the right place. Great people here with good advice. I visited Dartmouth 3 years ago. Nice area.

Welcome Ian! Have any pics that you could share?

I won't lie, I'm looking for ideas...:b

Hi Ian,

Welcome to winemakingtalk. LOL, your last name is the same as my maiden name.

Yes, great to have you on here, Ian. I don't know if there's still a Spagnols dealer in Dartmouth or not but the one on Young St in Halifax is a great little store (Maritime Brew). This would be an alternative to the WinExpert kits at Noble Grape, if you wish to compare.

Welcome to our addiction Ian,
As you mentioned, this is a great site for information. nowhere else will will find such a collection of well mannered honest and knowledgeable people.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Started cleaning all my items tonight getting ready to go at it this weekend.

I have decided to make my first batch in the furnace room in the basement. The PO's wine room/lab (also in the basement) is stuffed full of storage and very cold. I will reorganize in the spring and set it up accordingly if I need to expand and take it to the next level.

The furnace room is very clean, warm and there is enough space for a 6ft x 6ft corner bench, plus I have lots of material on hand to fab something up.

I will update with pics once I get everything up and running.

Cheers,
Ian

Welcome Ian and good luck on getting that wine room up and going.

Got my work station set up and sanitized everything, and my first batch is under way!

I noticed red wine stains on the drywall when building the bench. Lol! The PO must have done his fermentation in here as well, then moved it to the cooler "wine room" for storage.

Either way so far so good. Temps are stable and SG is dropping nice and steady.
