The title pretty much says it! i'm from south Dakota and while I was Lifeguarding this summer a coworker introduced me to this neat little hobbies. I questioned him a fair amount, but some things slipped through the cracks. basically what I learned from him was that yeast + sugar = booze! 
I don't have it down to a science, but so far I've been thinking of the yeast as a little micro-biotic pet..... that I keep in my basement. when I found this forum I figured this would be a great way to improve my brews.
