Last year I bought 2 laptops, 1 for me and the other for my daughter. They are Compaq Presario's. My daughters charging wire was intermittently not working unless you moved it completely sideways and i always thought it was the connection inside the computer cause thats what happen to my first laptop before we bought these 2. Mine started doing it 2 weeks ago and then stopped charging all together. Since it wasnt working I decided to test yo see if it was the wire or the computer and found and old wire with the same size end and cut both ends off and switched wire ends and VIOLA! A new wire from them or a computer store of its equivalent is between $55 and $90. I went to Walmart and found a cheap caller ID unit for $7.99 and fixed the other wire with electrical tape and some heat shrinks that Ive had laying around for 3 years. Youd think that for $700 each they would give you a decent wire as it will most likely be put in and taken out often.

No Wade, for that good of a wire, you need to spend $2700 on a high end model. They can't afford the extra $.50 expense of making a good wire for less than that!

I hear ya. My last laptop, a Toshiba went through 2 charger/adapters with broken wires until the internal plug did actually go out with a bad connection as well. I am on my 3rd laptop in 4 or so years.

Bah! My HP high end model had the same issue, and I paid $3300 for that one. I found the wire itself would short out just before the brick, so since it was out of warranty, I snapped open the brick, noticed the short, un-soldered the wires, cut away the frayed shorted part, and resoldered it down. It was good for 2 more years until the video ram on the mainboard fried.

I never really liked HP but the price was right and was basically the only laptop with a decent sized hard drive for all my MP3's and light scribe DVDR and good speed not to mention Centrino for decent battery life as my first 1 sucked up battery like a hummer sucks up gas.

Now, a one year warranty. Is that guaranteeing that it will fail a week after the year is done?
