Hi all. I live in a place where alcohol is illegal, so naturally there's a thriving underground industry here. Most brewers make the hard stuff though, I know of almost no one else making wine besides me. I've been doing this for about a year, but I've done it all backwards. A coworker who was moving back home taught me the ropes using a recipe he'd tinkered with for years, and it makes a very respectable wine. Now I'd like to learn WHY I'm doing what I'm doing and figure out how to do it better.

I've never even measured specific gravity before. **blushes**

I'm looking forward to learning a lot here!

Welcome to WineMakingTalk. So where are you living at?

Welcome !
I am sure you will be able to find all your answers here -

Like Julie - I am also interested where you live as well

Guys, I understand your curiosity but if wine making were illegal where I live I don't think I'd be eager to post my location. All this info is our there for anyone to read. I'm glad Gracie found us, but I will surely understand if she avoids some questions.

Welcome Gracie!

cintipam, her ip is coming from an area that making alcohol is allowed. So my curiosity raises a little.

IP could be relayed through an outside server. I think if I were in some countries, especially in the Middle East, I would be wary of disclosing my location. In many places in the world, proxy servers are standard ways to try to be anonymous for good reasons.

Welcome and don't be afraid to ask us questions.

Thanks for the welcome! I am in the ME, but like someone said, this is all out there for anyone to see, so I won't elaborate further. I hope that doesn't come across as cagey and diva! I do use a VPN to "hide" my IP address, mainly because so many movie and TV streaming sites are unavailable where I am. Also, unless I do it that way the search filters will not let me access sites about wine making lol.

I'd like to ask for some feedback on the recipe I'm using. I'll post it in the Recipes section.

Once again, thank you everyone for the words of welcome!
