Hi everyone. Just found the forum on the App Store. The wife just bought me a wine making kit so I guess I'm jumping in with both feet!

Welcome to the forum. What kit did she buy you?

The kit is a Chianti from "Vino Italiano".

The kit is missing two clearing agents that were listed in the package contents; Kieselsol and chitonsan. I should be about to pick theses up at a local wine making store, correct?

Thanks for the welcome.

yes but I would call customer service and have them send it to me. I am cheap I guess but you will likely use it later.

That kit says it is a four week kit I think. don't believe it. It will be good after at least 3 months. It is worth the wait.

I guess I should contact them, it can' hurt. Is there usually a standard amount of these chemicals that are added or is each kit different?

Thanks for the info.

The chemicals like sulfite, sorbate, and any clearing agents are set by volume, ie. 6 gallons.

What will vary by kit is oak, sugar (for specialty kits like ports), aF-pack" which is juice to sweeten the wine, and yeast.

Welcome to WMT. Great "bunch" og people here always willing to help. Have fun. Bakervinyard
