Went to check my favorite blackberry patch yesterday and they were ripe. well having no gloves and short sleeves I LIKE I was playing with wild cats. Did pick 15#s. For first trip that is great. Half a batch in one trip is good. well really need 25 more pounds if I count what is needed for F-Pak. Damn I love free berries:re:D

Good score on the berries! When I picked mine, I carried gallon sized ziploc bags and tried to get two full bags when ever I went some where. I averaged 6 lbs in a bag that would barely zip shut.
The berries were plentiful enough that I got kind of picky on what i picked.
I've got a year now to go till they are ready again, but I'm already dreaming of picking berries.

i miss my berrypicking, too:(

I got 20 pounds today. Went to one of my patches but bears were there so I let them have the berries. So i went to another. This is going to be a bumper crop year

dang, mike...i watched for copperheads and fought with the ticks and chiggers, but ain't NEVER had to worry bout no bear, lol lol
u be careful!

The bears would have to learn,,, they got to go and eat garbage! :)
Blackberries make good wine,,, garbage don't.

I would rather deal with bears then cooper heads

no good either way, lol...come to think of it, if u see the snake or the bear first, then u can avoid a confrontation...not seeing them ticks n chiggers, they get u every time:sh

Snake are embarrassing, I always scream like a girl. I just quietly walk away from bears, unless they are in my garbage then I yell out the window at them and throw stuff. They will spread it all over hell

i know the grizzly attacks were all in the news lately, but an interesting note...we had our first modern day documented bear attack here in kentucky this year, near the red river gorge. the magazine article even had pics of the bear from the guys cell phone. pretty scary cuz u could tell that bear was intent on this guy...no mistaking it.

Grizzly's are very rare here just black bears and seems as long as you dont mess with their cubs, food or surprise them pretty easy to deal with. I never want to meet a mad one

the kentucky incident was a male? maybe territory?

My brother went to upper Canada twice to hunt black bear. The old guy that owns the property and does the guiding says the big difference between a grizzly and black bear attack, is that chances are good, the black bear is going to eat you if he has the time.
The grizzly would probably kill you and walk away..
Either way,,, you're not picking berries any more.
