Anybody out there get blasted by these ice storms lately from Texas to New Hampshire? It's affecting a lot of people with power outages and all. 9 years ago we had a major one here and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. It rained and froze on for three days. It totally devastated the trees everwhere. About 1/3 to 1/2 or more of all trees broke in two under the weight of the ice. I'm seeing similar scenes on TV. We were without power at my place for 10 days with no heat and no water. I had to drive a tractor three miles and fill garbage cans with spring water. I tried to heat with a propane heater and darned near killed myself with carbon monoxide.

Almost ten years later many trees are still dying. What didn't die grew tops that look like a witches broomstick. A lot of woodlots got cleared to let new growth come back. The skyline for weeks looked like the aftermath of a nuclear explosion-like a bunch of sticks coming out of the ground.

Share your experiences with us so we can all appreciate how blessed we are to pull through these things.

Nothing here in NC thank goodness. Went from 75 degrees yesturday to about 45 today though, with a little wind, it was bone chilling. I hope everyone who were in the path of the ice storm are ok, and are keeping warm.

I remember that and we had ice but no where near that bad. We had alot
of power outages a few towns away from us but we were right on the line
that only got very little. Its funny how 1 town away got hit pretty
darn hard though!

Got tolove living in NC. We have our moments but most of the time it is really nice here.

We had an ice storm a couple of years ago and it was the most frightening thing I've ever been thru! I have 3 huge old maple trees in my yard and I was sure at least one of them was going to be in my bedroom! I slept (?) downstairs! I went out in the garage during the night and if I didn't know better, I would have sworn I was in a war zone. The hedgerows and woods were cracking and snapping all night. It sounded like gunfire and it was especially creepy because it was pitch black. I had no power for 10 days and no water for 2 weeks. It was pretty awful and I'd really rather not go thru that experience again, thank you very much!

The freezing rain Sunday night and Monday was nothing like that!

It looked like we were in a war zone here. For days you weren't allowed on the streets. The National Guard were deployed chains on their vehicles, etc. The governor flew in to check things out. Ah yes, the sound of the cracking and snapping trees. We are surrounded by pine forests here. Almost all of them lost at least their tops, a lot of them broke half way down them. We had two huge birches and numerous smaller birches here. Now they are almost all gone. The trees did indeed sound like guns and canons going off all around for days on end.

appleman, where are you? We had an ice storm here in Memphis, TN about 10 years ago that knocked out power for a week. SWMBO is still pissed that I was in Singapore until the day before the power came back on.

One good thing that I did when I bought this house was buy a big
generator and installed a seperate fuse boz(Emergen Switch). Now, if I
loose power I just turn the key, hit the switch and I have hot water,
heat, and anything else including this forum. Thank Good, I think I
would go through DT's without this forum now!

Our ice storm is suppose to start here in the early morning hours, tomorrow and tomorrow night.............., then again on Sunday. We'll see how it goes.

The weather forecasters are pulling the hair out here in Texas. They've been wrong more than they've been right.

It was sunny and warming here today with the wind out of the south!

Anyone want to move up NORTH, near Canada? There's not even any real amounts of snow up here!
