I have one and i use it for the first transfer from the primary. Usually i am not using a kit and my primary has way over 5 gallons. During the fermentation under air lock i dont worry about the extra space because the gas displaces the air. after that i rack off the lees and treat the wine etc into a 6 gallon carboyEdited by: scotty
